What kinda headphones you audiophiles into?

Since I've been gymming and also living with loud as fuck roommates whose default setting is, "Shout", I've been using headphones more than ever. I used to have the Bose Soundsport Frees, which sounded pretty good but were heavy and just never sat right. Now I'm using the Jaybird Tarah Pros.
At first they sounded like shit. Like tin cans. But then I used their sound customizer app thingy and holy shit the bass PUMPS and it just sounds amazing. I'm hearing notes in songs that I never picked up on before.
I do wanna purchase a set of over the ear headphones though for home use (I prefer the Jaybirds for gym use).
Any suggestions on something under $200?

Audio Technica ATH-M50x.
I'd say hands down these are the standard "nice" headphone.

Yeah I have these and they work well for mixing and just listening to music. I have a friend who went to school for audio engineering and these are the ones the school made them get. So I got them too.

the 770's have a flatter freq response than the m50's. m50's have more low end. 770's are more comfortable for sure. m50's sit on the ear. 770's- are open faced and m50's are closed. just preference

Yeah the soundsports weren't bad but they were heavy in the ear and never fit quite right with any of the buds.
I'm really looking for a noise cancelling, over the ear headphones that are comfortable and sound great.

I got wireless Skullcandy over headphone.
It does the job as I rarely listen to music.

I've heard other people say the lows are boosted in the m50x also. I haven't tried the sennheisers that you're talking about so I can't say for sure how the comparison is. M50x does not sit on the ear they are over the ear.

Sony MDR V6’s are still the gold standard as far as I’m concerned. ATH-M50’s are basically a copy of them.
If you are listening via Bluetooth and trying to achieve good quality you’ve already fucked up.

There are better head phones than the V6’s, theres no argument to be had. But I’m willing to bet very few can really tell the difference. Me included. Oh, and Bluetooth sucks, though it’s gotten way better over the years. There are lossless wireless methods, but I’m not aware of any headphones that use those standards. It’s a surprise there are no airplay wireless headphones (that I know of) as they would be lossless.

HD6xx right now with a FiiO E10K Amp. I'm not really an Audiophile but my Dad bought me the Amp a while back and I didn't have a pair of headphones that would really benefit from it. Bought the Headphones on EBay Open Box Sale for pretty good deal but still pricey.

Basically all decent headphones, in ear monitors included, should be driven by a dedicated amp. DACs are another point of contention, but once you hit a certain level they are all pretty much even. For example, an Airport Express has a DAC that performs equally to DACs 20 times as expensive.

I generally stick with sennheiser for serious listening. But the other ones mentioned in this thread are also classics, it just depends on what kind of sound you enjoy.

Last year, Loaded Shaman made a similar thread: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26313013/fpart/1/vc/1
Currently I have a pair of Sony MDR-V55 as my old Sony Dj headphones broke. Speakers still work but one side of the frame came apart. Needs repair....
On my new V55's, I really love the black and red colors and the sound is loud and decent in quality.

agree with this on a budget they are great, also have a nice "warm" read bassy, sound
I have a pair of etymotix forget the variant with molded ear pieces for serious listening, but the are studio monitor quality (play all the frequencies, juice none of them) leafing people to feel they sound flat

The best headphone setup I ever had was a TMA-2's with a portable amp like one of these fiio's.
Right now I use a bose quiet comfort 2 and its pretty good, but nowhere near the same sound quality as my previous setups. Sony dj headphones are also really good when paired up with an amplifier.
