I also started with homemade loop. Given a professionally made loop may work better but I like swabs more at the moment. Given, I'm making my own swabs which can be a little bit time consuming but not so much as to make me go back to the loop.

I litterally just fill a half pint jar with a handful of loose swabs and sterilize em all at once. Been reaching into the same jar for years with no issues. I only wrap em in foil when I go to send a swab off.

January 11, 2020 - 2nd Transfers With work being super hectic and having very limited time to do anything I finally got around to making some more Pastys for these transfers late Thursday night and was able to have everything ready to go for the X2s on this lovely Saturday morning. Just about the same routine as the 1st round of transfers, the dogs so lovingly woke me up at about 6am so I took that opportunity to get the furnace fan shut down and get the SAB prep'd and ready to rock 'n' roll I haven't had time to keep an eye on the growth or progress of the 1st transfers so it was basically an unveiling when I popped them into the SAB and snapped these pictures. To my surprise all of them I think are looking incredibly clean, quite strong and healthy. The weakest I would say is the 1st one you'll be seeing, which I don't think I will be putting to grain, just pulling a transfer from it and pitching it to free up another mini round. Since the rest are looking surprisingly good I am going to prep 6qts of oats today and drop the last 5 Pastys as well as a fine ass looking RW dish I have taking off from a recent grow that I cloned (1st time cloning and it is going great, but more on that another time). My initial plan going into this grow was to transfer 2-3 times before I even considered going to grain, and probably taking it out to 5 transfers for the hell of it. I'm still probably going to take it out to X5, but since these look as good as most of my 3, 4 or 5th transfers I've done in the past I figured why not. I'm taking this opportunity to test my sterility and see if my technique will allow for me to get away with only doing 1-2 transfers in the future, so I can cut down on my time from germination to harvest. I'm not so much focused or concerned with rushing or speeding up the individual steps as I am just streamlining my process. Great White Monster - X1A Great White Monster - X1B 1st is the weakest and his journey is ending here aside from a transfer taken. 2nd isn't the strongest of the bunch, but I'm going to roll with it anyways and drop him to grain with the rest of the X1s. As you'll see a few of the plates had a drop of water land on the mycelium off the lid, I've had this happen in the past and haven't had issues as long as I'm not tilting and spinning the shit out of the plates. The condensation is also less than desireable, but it hasn't adversely affect my growth or progress so I just deal with it and have limited sight through the sides of the plates. Mystery Variety - X1A Mystery Variety - X1B Not much to say about these other than I'm loving the symmetry and cleanliness of these plates, by the end of the day they'll be acquainted with their future grain feast! Rusty Whyte - X1A Rusty Whyte - X1B Same for these plates, nothing too crazy to say or point out other than the fact that these X1s are probably my cleanest and healthiest X1s to date. Everything I've had since I've started this hobby has been tomentose growth on agar, probably since I'm using the same agar recipe and varieties, but once I drop them to grain and/or spawn them to bulk with coco and verm I usually start to see rhizomorphic growth at that stage. In my limited experience though, the end result has been as good as anything else. X2 Pastys Here's the end product after taking a single transfer from each of my 6 X1s this morning. With my work schedule not due to change for a few months my next opportunity to make transfers will most likely be a week from now, until then...

I had thought about trying that. My jar sits in my SAB most of the time and is never opened outside so only risk of contam with be my gloved hand. Just didn't want to take the chance when I actually NEED them to be sterile. I may try another batch as a test just for some of my experimental transfers. Thanks for the heads up!
Posted in the OTD thread, and there are some plates in here that are not part of the grow bit most are so.... Making transfera from these today (again, I hope. Mobility permitting)

Tamps isn't part of the grow, but damn that myc looks sexy.

My plan is to catch up to you guys a bit and take that z-strain to LC and then do a direct inoculation to sterile sub in a myco bag.
You gunna do your cube grow the same way you do pans?
Not quite. I'll fruit right from the bag instead of moving to a tray.

Made first transfers on Wednesday. Pic was taken two days post-transfer. They’ll be going to grain in a week (unless some random ass contam shows up).

A Taz plate that I didn’t use has showed some very promising growth in the last couple days. I’ll probably end up taking one more transfer off this one.

Oh man! I'm jonesing to pour plates! 6 days till we get back home. And a couple shots of 3 Roses Bourbon in coffee is pretty good too! This grow along is sooo great for the details, I learned the reason for Z swiping spores to spread them out in order to get a good T1!

I’m so ready for this 👍
So whaddya streak?
Sorry for my delay. I streaked 10 petris with Cambodians.
Almost 8 days later and I don't see anything happening. I followed BODs BRF Agar tek... Here are some pics. I'll update my "grow log" in this thread.
 -------------------------
A little background: I'm a total noob and have been doing a lot of research and reading on this fantastic community. Purchased RR downloadable clips (apparently DVDs are sold out and wish I could buy the entire series, not just the clips).
While I am a noob, I try to be as meticulous as possible, patient and am not afraid to fuck up. That's how we learn, right? I'll be making a post/thread/journal (which ever is appropriate), detailing the good, the bad, the funny to the stupid that I'm sure will have any experienced growing laughing: THINGS I'VE LEARNED – Real life adventures from an eager noob [with pics]
-------- 01.03.20 --------
Steps taken inside my SAB:
- Poured 10 BRF Agar plates after proper PC techniques (followed RR's agar video)
- Inoculated with Cambodian Syringe
- Tried to streak with a sterile loop, loop was flimsy and kept bending
- Abandoned the loop and just tried to get one drop of spores into the center of the plate (sterilizing needle to red hot each time) —definitely going to take some practice to just get one!
- Sealed petris with saran wrap and inserted each into new sandwich bags
- BONEHEAD ALERT: placed the inoculated petris in fridge! Could this be the reason nothing is growing?... I've successfully grew BRF cakes with fridge stored syringes
- Almost 8 days later, no sign of life, good or bad
-------- 01.20.20 --------
I finally have some good growth on my plates! (Reminder, this is my first time using agar)
Apologies for the crappy lighting!

> Plate 1 : After 7 days without any growth, and reading you could grow myc this way, I broke a pin in half and dropped on the agar (the black clumps) as an experiment. I figured why not? I had plenty of plates and it would be a good learning experience.
I'm thinking to transfer the good myc to a new plate. What parts should I be looking to take?

> Plate 4 : I scraped a little agar off the top before anything began to grow (dark area). Did I end up contaminating my plate?
> Plate 5 : Should I have transferred to grains or a fresh plate a few days ago?

> Plate 8

> Plate 9

> Plate 10

My oat grain is drying and I saved some of the boiled oat water (per Bod's Oat Grain Tek). I will be making agar plates as well as LC (per Mushboy Making Liquid Culture post
Your advice and feedback are greatly appreciated!
