BRF cakes not pinning in fruiting chamber

Day 12 in the fruiting chamber and still no pins... any advice? Will they pin or just toss and start over? They are in a SGFC, misting and fanning 2-3x daily. Light 12/12. I did cut back on the misting lately to let the vermiculite dry out between mists because it seemed like they were remaining wet before. There seems to be little patches of white fuzz forming on top of the cakes and some of the side/bottoms.

I will tell you what I tell everyone who asks this question. Take those cakes and stick them in a shoebox with some coir and poop. You won't regret it

is there any way to do a shoebox tek without fruiting chamber? I mean, like the neglected tek?

Yeah I think cakes are a complete waste of time and a huge setback for anyone trying to get into this hobby. I have fruited cakes for fun before but never would put effort or money into it

So would you say go directly into shoeboxes rather than starting with cakes?

Yea I am looking for advice here too. I'm currently 2 months in on my first batch of cakes and they just won't fucking consolidate. The bottoms have almost no mycelium at all but the sides are thick and hearty.
Looking to try a different tek than the jars. What would you recommend?

Sorry I think I should clarify, jars are the best way to prep spawn, I'd suggest using grains cause brf are crap. I was trying to explain that teks that involve fruiting cakes are obsolete. Cakes should be spawned to a bulk substrate and fruitied in monotubs. Also if the bottoms are not colonizing you probably have bacterial contamination. If you are looking for a first time tek you would have good success with the shoebox tek linked above.

Hey thanks for the response. I was planning on the stupid simple shoebox when the time came but damnit these jars.
I did have one jar contam and immediately quarantined it. The remaining jars have no signs (to my incredibly untrained eye) of contam so I', just playing the waiting game. its trash

Agreed. I’m so glad I started with shoeboxes. I made up a couple brf jars just for the experience about a week after inoculating my first wbs jars, and by the time I got my first 3 gram flush from the cake my first shoebox had put out four flushes and over 2 dry ounces in the same time span.
If you’re just starting definitely skip cakes. Based on my experience syringe to wbs to coir shoebox is the easiest and fastest way to get to mushrooms.

Cakes look fine, they may need time. Make sure they have proper fae, mist to keep them glistening (without water pooling on or under them) and make sure they get light.
I’ve had issues with my SGFC so I am currently trying the humidity chamber Tek using wet coir instead of perlite (in a container with no holes) and it seems to be working better, less maintenance required and the mushies seem to love it.
P.S I know cakes are far from the method but I’ve always done them and had success. I enjoy them and I find them to be easy with minimal effort. I suggest agar and grains but if you can’t for whatever reason, cakes will do. I’ve been working with them for a while and once I got my process down I can do them with my eyes closed and one hand tied behind my back.
