my first Monotub

So this the first monotub I have ever made. 66qt tub with clamped lid, no gasket.
I used a can to melt the holes. 2 on each broad side, just above the substrate level. 1 on each narrow side just below the top.
I covered the top holes with one layer of micropore tape and the bottom holes with 2 layers.
The bottom is completely covered in black electrical tape.
My grains will be ready in about a week or so. Will upload progress once I start using it!

Looks good. That black tape won’t prevent side pinning, it will just make it impossible for you to see if it’s side pinning. If that’s what you’re worried about, running a liner can help. Good luck, keep us updated!

Dang it! I thought I was being clever. So the liner has to be inside the tub?

You'll get dry pretty quick with that sized hole. Standard is 1.5inches.
Supportive on monotubs though! Just may want to block part of the hole off with tape tape to make the hole smaller.
-------------------- But if you're in a hurry, and really got to go If you're in a hurry, might have to find out slow That it's one thing to try and another to fly You get there quicker just a step at a time It's one thing to bark, another to bite The show ain't over till you pack up at night

Thanks for the feedback! I'm gonna shrink the holes with some TAPE tape! LOL

If it's outside the tub, like the tape, light will get through the plastic wall itself from above.
Some people say blacking out the bottom doesn't do anything anyways. I think it does.

side pins don’t happen because of light, it’s the microclimate between sub and tub. the liner just adheres to the sub closes that gap.
