Check out my ghetto oyster grow

Pink oysters inside of a paper towel holder, wrapped in a clear plastic with a fish tank bubbler to supply fresh oxygen. Anyone ever used a bubbler for fresh air on a small project like this? Haha I love it. Pins are growing fast and I’ll post a photo on how big the oysters get.

Also thank you to everyone who helped me on my previous post.

The bubbler really pumps out air. It moves the bag from the wind. Do you think I should leave it more open? It already has a 1 inch space around it for air to escape.

This is how we are looking right now. I’m worried that if I don’t have a bag on it they will dry out quickly if I am not home to spray every hour or so. I’ll keep posting pictures of the pins daily to see if you guys can catch them becoming too much stipe before it’s too late.

You can let them get as much stipe as you want but no one eats the stipe at least most people don't they already have a lot of stipe. Where yours are at now is about all the stipe mine get and I get caps the size of my head. Although the stipe on mine gets thicker. I am sorry but I don't really know what to suggest. Maybe Forrester will have a suggestion for you. But they need more air exchange. Oysetrs should get 3 to 6 air exchanges an hour and I would imagine that what you have set up would need the 6 air exchanges. You might try putting a 25mm fan in there for a circulation fan just moving the air around but not blowing on the mushrooms. Moving the air around will not allow high co2 levels to build up around the mushrooms.

Maybe that pic is deceiving. It is always a good idea to have something in the pic to reference by. I like to use a bic lighter for reference. My mushrooms get about 1 to 1 1/2 inch of stipe but with your setup. I would be satisfied with 2 to 2 1/2 stipe. Although that is a lot of stipe you have to work with what you got.

The way you opened up the whole top of the bag you are going to get small mushrooms anyway. I cut the bottom of the bag from corner to corner. I try to not let the bag lift away from the sub when I slice the bag. If the bag lifts up you will get mushrooms fruiting inside the bag.

Thank you so much for the info. This is my first grow so I’m just testing the waters. I might do another inside grow before spring hits then do mostly outdoor grows since I live in GA. Looking at videos of outdoor grows it seems much less of a hassle. Plus you don’t have to risk your house getting loaded with spores. I’ll keep the bag on while I am away from the house just to keep moisture up but when I am here I will keep it off and spray religiously. House is really dry due to running the heat in the winter. I’ll have another photo of them with reference this afternoon.

Just take the bag off because it will really hose your oysters too much and spray once a day honestly and you'll be fine with the humidity.

wow that is a massive pinset! Once they're at that point I wouldn't worry nearly as much about humidity as I would AIRFLOW. Spraying 'em whenever you can should be enough, just give em all the air you can and enjoy!

Check out that growth in 18 hours! About 3/4 of the time I leave the bag on. I’m going to take it off for good now and see how it affects it or should I leave the bag on? They say they double in size every 24 hours. I would say that is a lot more than double in less than 24 hours! Do they look like they will have too much stipe?

Also, what is the reason for creating a long stipe due to too much co2? Is it an attempt to get more out of the wood/bark to better spread spores out into the air?

Mushrooms breathe oxygen, they deform when excess co2 is present ( think suffocation) Some are more tolerant than others.

The mushroom attempts to grow quickly to find fresh air.
