Amusingly you should try making dehydrated snacks, they can be quite good, especially since you can control how dehydrated you want things.  Mostly but not completely dehydrated strawberry and cherry chunks on icecream is damn good!
A warning though, dehydrate habaneros outside!

Also you’re fine, bruising is oligermization of psilocin but is so intense they would need to go jet black before you notice any lose in potency from bruising.

Thank you for that, that’s very comforting. The instructions are well, brief! So google and YouTube hopefully will give me ideas. Like the sound of “fruit leathers” and chicken jerky; that’s supposed to be good for the dogs too, though ive got two labradors and they eat anything!

Thanks for the confidence booster, I’m pressing on at 70 degC.

Cheers

Isn’t blue a sign of oxidation, and does that mean by slicing you’re losing loads of potency? Should I put whole mushrooms in the dehydrator in future?

Thanks for your answers,
DJ Ed

Nice!! Congrats on the dehydrator, it's definitely a must (one of the first things I bought when I was starting oddly enough :hehehe:)

Those look great, I always slice or rip then in half so they can fit into the racks on my dehydrator, no problems unless you were to just leave them lying around for a while before putting the in the dehydrator.

Minor update, folks: I dried 122g sliced fresh at 70degC for three hours. I have never had my mushrooms so “cracker” dry. Wow, and the stuff I air dried iover the years is still potent after three years in the freezer, so these new beauties are going to be good. Final weight, 9.2g.

So I’ve grabbed my first flush out of my desiccant box: still at 35% RH after almost a week, and that was after five days air drying!

I have a new process for drying, and it rocks.

Thanks for pushing me into the purchase, guys. LogicaL Chaos, thanks for the light bulb tip,but don’t need that now.

Mush love everyone,
A happy...DJ Ed

Cheers, buddy. Yes, I’ve actually been really impressed by it. Wet to absolutely cracker dry in 3 hours. 123g wet to 9.2g dry. It’s the driest I’ve ever had them, and the previous ones have been strong and sound. Really poor second flush, though; Didn’t think I needed to soak the substrate after the first flush, so just heavily misted. I got about 15 fruits and about 100 aborts :-( You live and learn........

Gonna have to grow more to get my moneys worth out of it 🤣

Cheers,
DJ Ed

I built my dehydrator with the following materials:

A computer fan run by a power adaptor.
A small cardboard box
A small metal-screen pasta strainer
A box cutter
Packing tape

I mounted the fan inside the box and cut some holes for it to blow air out of.
Then I cut a hole in the top of the box big enough to set the strainer in.
Tape the box shut so air gets sucked through the strainer with the shroomies and blows out of the holes in front of the fan.

It works like a charm! You can smell the shroom smell blowing out of the holes and in a couple hours that stuff is cracker-dry.

Ive seen some really dope "high volume" DIY dehydrators in mush cult. They are simple to huild too. They dont need much to work.

I urge you to get a dehydrator and to keep the temp. relatively low....110-135 degrees.

I completely ruined a pound or so of ovoids last year by trying to speed the process up and raising the temp to 185. Long story short, it completely killed the potency and I lost my whole spring crop.

The only thing that I did differently was raise the temp....I have never had any considerable loss of potency at lower temps. Near as I can figure, the high temps caused the fruits to release the psilocin prematurely.Really dumped on my season.:facepalm3:

Hmm, I set the dehydrator to the maximum temperature, 70degC, which is roughlym150/155degF. Hope they’re alright, but having said that when I make the tea I pour over BOILING water then simmer, with no apparent loss of potency.

You may have had a bad batch....

Gonna sample some of these GTs tomorrow night. No idea on potency, so if it’s duff, it could be the spores, could be the drying. We’ll see.

Thank you all for your input, as always, very much appreciated.

Right off to Cultivation to post a question there.......

Mush love,
DJ Ed

Exactly, everything I've seen says that they can take a lot of heat without potency loss.  150-155F is totally safe

Intending to trial them tomorrow. Sort of excited because I’ve been working through a (good, strong)batch of Psilocybe Cubensis B+ for a couple of years :-)

Oh no! What did the fruits look like afterwords?

One time, back in the day, i used a dehydrator to dry some wild Pan cyans. Well, that was a bad idea because after it was done, they turned completely black like they were burnt to a crisp. I learned a hard lesson that day :nonono:

Hi LogicaL Chaos.

They didn’t look burnt, though they were crispy. Not quite as white as when I’ve previously air-dried them. I’d go and take a photo but my daughter is downstairs! If I remember, I’ll take a photo tomorrow before dosing, then post it back here ✊🏻

Take care,
DJ Ed

They looked perfect, not black at all and I know the potency was good before drying because I ate a few fresh ones before drying and was surprised at how potent they were.

I remember your thread about the black ones...that once happened to me when I put them in the dehydrator when they were still soaking wet. I don't think it mattered though, they were just ugly. Still decent potency.
As far as the guys saying they dry them at 155 without problem...that is a long way from 185 which is just 27 degrees shy of boiling water temp. In any case, I'll stick with the lower temps from here on out because I've never had any troubles other than having to wait an extra few hours.:mushroom2:

People such as myself often make tea from mushrooms in greater temperatures than 150f, your shrooms are definitely fine in that regard
