Guess it happens.
:failure: :cringe: :failure:
Mushboy that article does say it's temp dependant and list rainforests and decaying vegetation as habitat. I'm in high desert, no rainforests anywhere close.

Nah bruh. It's not as easy at he's making out to be is my point.

We just don't want new people to be pouring out their hard earned clean spawn outside thinking it be dat easy ya know?  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't ur right, but it ain't #EasyAsFuck fersure

This was really easy...the main problems I have had with outdoor grows are the elements ie wind rain and sun.
I have had the odd problem with
rats diggin out grain-more so in my outdoor tubs close to house
termites-only when grain and hpoo is laid on bare ground-didnt have problem s when I started on nice grass
Green mould/Trich-I dont see any even on unpasteurised hpoo-sometimes only a little at the end after mushrooms are finished-But I have more mould problems on my indoor projects/tubs
Slugs can be a major problem when pins and fruits come-they love them!!
I like that cold frame idea.I think that could be used to great advantage
But dont get me wrong...
Im not trying to say it will work everywhere...but Im pretty certain could be done in most places once its warm-with a little ingenuity.
For drier less humid areas-a bit of water poured 2/3 times daily around area creates favorable humid conditions.
Give it a try
You may be surprised...

Super excited to attempt this, do you reckon if one were to poke a bunch of holes in the "casing" layer it might influence the mycelium to put out fruits from each hole? (possibly leading to bigger yields spread out opposed to clusters)

:mushroom:Poking holes wont make any differnce-
Dont let the top dry hard-Keep your pile dampish and if your temps,rh and evaporation are right you will get fruits:mushroom::mushroom::mushroom::mushroom:

This worked great for me. I had 4 jars of the same pan cyan variety and didn't have my martha built yet at that point so I didn't have a way to fruit them all. So I made an outdoor bed with all four jars. I did things just slightly differently, but really it probably would have worked the same had I followed the instructions exactly. I sprinkled the colonized grains down directly on the soil, sprinkled dry aged horse manure over the top (a very thin layer - just enough to completely cover the grains - so slightly less than 1/4"), then I covered that with fresh chopped straw. Then I watered it all with a watering pail and left it alone. It sat like that for maybe 2 weeks max, then we got some rains several days in a row and the patch is starting to fruit. If you zoom in you can see a LOT more fruits coming up so it appears the patch is just getting started. Now I just have to figure out when I should harvest the fruits. As of now I'm waiting to see them drop spores and then I harvest them. They do seem to get bigger each day up to that point and since pans are so tiny anyway, I want to let them get as big as possible.

I've got a perfect little spot in my landscaping for a Pan-patch. Winter is just about to hit though so I'll have to start some spawn in the Spring. What temperatures would be best for pans?

Awesome grow and thanks for the TEK!

Above 70 at night, and really any temp during the day so long as it's humid enough. For example, if it got to 90F during the day, but humidity was high, that would be fine. The more rain the better. You can make up for that if you install some sprinklers. The best possible weather for outdoor pans in my experience is daily rains (even if just for a couple of hours), night time temps above 70, and day time temps between 76 and 90. Direct sun is ok but mine preferred partial shade (filtered sunlight). You can use tools to make up for a lot of things your environment might be lacking. Misters would fix lack of rain. Shade cloth setup a few feet above the pans can prevent long direct sun exposure. And a make-shift hoop frame poly covering (low budget greenhouse) may help with the day and or night-time temps if they are a bit low.

I've heard panaeolus bisporus will tolerate lower temps but I haven't tried them yet. I plan to give them a shot in early spring to see how early and how late I can extend the outdoor season.

Awesome, thanks! Temps/humidity shouldn't be a problem for me from June to mid September and I have a perfect spot for filtered sun. This will be going in a manicured lawn/landscaping bed so I will have to either install a mister or hand water daily to avoid having wet grass over night, otherwise I'll get lawn diseases.

I hate when I'm already planning Spring projects and expecting the snow to fly within the month
