Recommendation for a decent electric single burner...

I'm looking for a 110v single burner to run an aluminum Presto 23.
I have an old one, which is 1100 watt and excellent. And I've purchased a few cheap ones on amazon for under $25 which have way too conservative/safety thermostats and kick off so frequently that no real heat put out and the PC can't be brought to pressure. (they are also so lightweight I fear they can't handle the hours of constant high heat.
In fact, my home stove is looking worse for the wear after hundreds of runs.
Thanks in advance...
T
This looks decent...

I'm also interested in a single electric burner. My stove is so jacked up, only two of the burners work anymore.
You might look into getting a small propane burner.

I'm fairly interested to see where this discussion goes. If theres a way to do the PC without taking up the stove thatd be amazing.

Most burners will take a beating doing 2 hour grain runs every day and twice on sunday, that said they make "canning" burner coils to replace wimpy factory one on kitchen ranges. I personally get a cheap single from Wally or whatever 10 bucks , disable the thermostat and run a few self- tapping sheetmetal screws hold it together more. 50-100 runs or whenever it lookin sketchy grab a couple more repeat. definitly get moneys worth out of it. I run AA 915 on 10$ burner lol. wide open without the thermostat starting off with hot water 2 hour run complete about 3 hours + cool down. whatever you use is gonna take a beating and murking a ten buck wally...i always monitor the PC when doing runs so i am the thermostat. 15-20 psi is no problem for 10ish bux I have a nice propane turkey fryer type thing also but its not practical at all.

Okay, so what if I bypassed the cheap thermostat. If I was unwilling to run it wide open... could I put a better controller in its place? Perhaps using a pressure instead of thermostat?

I was just looking at that mainstay double burner one when I went to get wbs today, since I’ve also got a 23qt coming. I think it was 25 dollars.
It just looks like it wouldn’t handle it well so I’m leaning towards a propane camping stove.

Oh it’d be out in the backyard, seems like you could put a fan in the window facing out and put the propane cooker in front of that, but I’d do some more research. Wouldn’t want accidentally asphyxiate yourself or something stupid.

Ive tried almost every hot plate known... I pound em into the ground till they die!
Some die quick... 3 pc runs and heat melts the wiring or heating element dies. They're not really geared towards 2 hr PC runs cranked on high... However....
There is one that can take it! PROCTOR SILEX.
by far the best. Takes a full beating for years!
The worst was black & decker at a 2 week lifespan.
Proctor silex all day! Cheap too!

No difference than turning on a gas stove.

I like the solid top more than the closed coil.
Yeah theyre expensive but running a pc is a lot to ask for a hot plate and cheap ones can’t hang or burn out. Commercial grade if you want it to take a reasonable amount of time and to feel like your house probably wont burn down.

pressure would be sweet! or maybe a dimmer. i go ghetto ,i can see the pressure gauge in the other room from my workstation as well as my computer, two extension cords allow me to unplug it for couple minutes. 18 psi with weight on the rocker my AA holds the pressure awesomely, once it lose a few plug it back in before 15 psi. repeat. a bit of a ass pain but it works well, tried many brands and styles of burners for one that would actually do a run and never found one that could handle it. 2 hour runs on the regular tear up a kitchen range , so a nice 160 single burner seemed a waste of money. 12 $ cheapo ill run it into the ground and just get a new one. WIDE OPEn gets sh*t done...

I've worked enough catering to know that cheap burners either melt, ignite, or burn out. Most of them are housed in plastic and are designed for pots no bigger than the diameter of the burner itself. They are not at all fit to handle something with a wide base like a pressure cooker or kettle. They often can't even handle a 12" skillet.
I'm sure you can get a few runs out of them, but why spend $12 often when you can spend $120 once?

I'm looking at this one too.. glass stove in the house did you have to modify it (disable the thermostat?) I'd like to run the presto 23 qt on it at 15psi.

You can put pretty much any cooker on a glass top. As long as you don't go full retard it is just fine

I love my Cadco CSR-3T Hot plate. They're commercial grade, 1500w 110v. They're beasts and seem to show no signs of slowing down after years of use
