Contam or Primordia?
    #26423367 - 01/08/20 05:42 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

Tried searching everywhere high and low to see if I could find pictures of something similar to no avail. However, I’m pretty sure it’s primordia due to knots showing up in the past couple days and the knots occurring around it, as well as the stage of the cycle the tub is in. But I thought it wouldn’t hurt to reach out for a second opinion and in turn possibly help someone else down the line that runs into the same issue. Could anyone set my mind at ease and give me their opinion on this? If it is primordia what’s the best route to go about it, take substrate out of the shoebox and put it into a bigger tub to allow for the pins to fully grow or just leave it be?

Why not both? - Zoidberg
They appear to be primordials around uncolonized darker areas.  The mushrooms seem to be cordoning off the area as well as saying fuck it fruit anyway.
The fruits will be safe to eat but your later flushes will be less.

I had some problems like this, some sort of yeast or bacteria would grow on the sidepins, it started off same color as your pic and got lighter yellow over time.

Still got a good flush.

Awesome! That’s what I figured referring to what information I could find, appreciate the input!

In your opinion, Could this be caused by using an agar medium that incorporates nutritional yeast? I have very little experience with identifying yeast or bacterial growth, but maybe it would be best for me to go from a yeast agar to a non yeast agar before making up the jars next time?

You could follow a starving agar recipe to make a control to test that theory
- it's just agar and water
The idea is to have minimal nutrients for bacteria/contams to grow. However, this isnt the most nutritional medium, so growth may be slow.
