updated my first post
the gist is that I put a lot of LC on to grain last night. accidentally sloshed 50 ml in to one quart jar, so I did another like that as well for consistency's sake. other 2 jars were on the heavy side too but nothing wild. 10-15 ml. the grains were very dry specifically so I could inoculate heavy but not 50 ml heavy!

swabbed grocery store mushrooms to agar last night as well:

King Oyster, brown and white Shimeji, Maitake

I hope this isn't too far off topic, just wanna ask a quick question.

There's some great shrooms in the market here in France. Do you swab the gills of the mushroom or try for a print from it? A lot of them haven't even opened the veil.

this was my first time ever doing it so I can't say this is the best or even a great way to do it, but I tried to print the shimeji and oyster - only the oyster dropped anything, so i swabbed the gills of the gilled ones (kind of aggressively, figuring they'd been harvested who knows how long ago), the pores of the maitake, and aggressively dragged/rolled the swab around on the plates. I also cut clones from interior tissue just above the gills, and from near the base of the maitake just to see how that might work too.
the only one I'm confident I'll ever see fruits from is the oyster, but this seemed like a fun thing to try, LAGM really has me in the spirit!
I also expect to grow a lot of other stuff on these plates and have a lot of clean up to do considering the journey the fruits made to my fridge

Grocery store cloned Blue Oyster:

Even the first transfer away from the original clone was totally clean. Well, either totally clean or the BO destroyed everything else in there. Also fully colonized probably within a week. Oyster is crazy aggressive. Too bad I haven't put these to straw yet... just a bunch of petri fruits and waaaaay overripe spawn jars.

That’s a great idea, I’ve been looking into doing oysters next and I’m so used to having to do things anonymously online I never even considered I could go to the store for clones.

This is my first time working with them but so far they seem to be average. Neither noticably quick nor slow.

Happened but accident I'll take it. Using a 500ml media bottle, I microwaved in 2 minute intervals. I believe it took 3 heatings to fully melt. Time may vary depending on microwave. Either way, once it is fully melted and hot as hell I pulled it out of microwave and let it sit on the counter while I was prepping WBS. Came back to it and it was still fully melted but begining to thicken. Popped it back in microwave for 30seconds and it came out hot enough to flow beautifully and cool enough to handle with no discomfort. Like holding a warm mug. Wiped down with iso and sit in SAB and you can see how it pours. Though, there was a lot of sediment in this batch, viscosity was perfect.

I’ll be testing this liquid inoculant pour lid tonight with this stropharia!

Stropharias lighting I’ll have to take a pic later. 4-5 days and it runs the plate and goes up the wall.

I hear ya, I just got a deal on amazon, 3 500ml media bottles for $15! Should still be up there. Meant to get just one more but that price for 3 Pyrex I couldn’t pass it up. Switching from BRF to lme tonight, so I’ll get to see the difference in pours when I get home. I’ve started to let the bottle cool a bit more closer to 120 bc ive been pouring about 125ish and getting hella condensation.

Thanks for the heads up. I can always use more media bottles. I've given up on temping them oh, I just go by feel now. If I can hold it, it's good I have not tried brf agar, only PDA that I started with, and MEA that in using now. I really like MEA.

Different agar has different consistency.
I used to use the logs in the back and I like it but you have to use a lot more agar than the recipes call for. The clear stringy stuff works ok but it has a weird waxy consistency and if you make it too hard myc won't geminate on it, at least not from these old spores. It also does this thing sometimes where it makes a hard layer on bottom and the condensation forms a water layer on top. I stopped using that stuff. The boxes are what I'm using now and it works really well. I think some brands are more suited for mush cult than others. I have some telephone brand I haven't used, one little packet is the same as one of those boxes and I've gotten way more uses from it. That's the only reason I'm not on team tele.

It’s deceiving looking. I can’t get good pics in pasty plates and I was way off center when I did this transfer but I’m inoculating now so it doesn’t climb the wall. If I let it go another day it will take over.

team tele. Love it. I almost tried some of those boxes when the Viet store I got my agar was out of telephone but wasn't sure it would work the same with added sugar. Ended up show a picture of telephone agar on my phone to one of the employees and the dug out 2 packets buried in the back so I didn't have to make the call. Found 5 packets on Amazon recently for a good price so I'm good for a while right now I think but I may give those a shot just for shits and giggles.

I used the box stuff with sugar added. It came out really soupy and I used quite a bit. I then bought telephone brand and it's perfect. Bought 6pk on eBay for great price. That's what I'm going to do for now on. I see very fine specs of myc on one of my Rusty Whyte plates. Wife and I will make transfers of TAILFEATHERS and Rusty Whyte tomorrow.
