Pink Oysters Pinning In Bag Question

Hey guys I bought a kit containing Pink Oysters. I have watered them as directed but the pins are coming out within the bag and not thru the area that I cut open. Should I leave it how it is or open up another hole where they are pinning. Any advice is welcomed! Thanks in advance.

That looks pretty small so you probably weren't going to get much anyway. It looks like the bag was not fully colonized. It also looks like you cut the bag where it was not fully colonized. If what I am assuming is correct there are a couple of reasons why it fruited inside the bag. 1st it was not colonized where you cut the bag so it could not fruit there. 2nd the bag needs to be tight against the substrate and cut gently. So when you cut the bag you don't want the bag to lift away from the substrate. If the bag lifts away from the substrate it will fruit inside the bag anywhere it is getting fresh air. The only part of the substrate you want getting fresh air is where the slice is. There should be a very tiny slice exposed to fresh air. Tiny as far as the width you can make the length long. But don't get discouraged!! I am assuming this is your 1st attempt. If you want to try again I would suggest starting from scratch and making your own spawn bags and your own substrate bags. You can make your own bags for a couple of dollars each. If you have or can borrow a PC.

If you want to try and save it I would open the bag and take the pins off then reseal the bag as tight as you can. Getting out all the air. Tape up the bag where you sliced it and reslice the bag where it is tight against the substrate and nice and white. I wouldn't expect much though.

The directions told me to scratch the surface where I opened the package at so that is why it is brown. The pins just came up so do you think sealing the side that I cut and open the side with the pins would work? I opened not even 48 hours ago. The block from is completely colonized it’s just the pins came up in a spot where there was air an pocket.

I sealed up that hole with tape. I am going to cut a small slit in the top of the bag so I can add moisture when needed. I’ll let it stay like this for a few days until then pins get larger then open the top up. It also has a little piece of filter paper attached to a hole in the bag so that will help with FAE

You might as well cut the top of that bag off and just let it fruit. If you don't do something you are going to have all stem and no cap and the cap is what most people eat. That is why I said to reslice the bag. But apparently you missed that.

Oyster mushrooms can not be allowed to fruit in the bag like that they will be no good. They have to get way more fresh air than they can get like that. Use a spray bottle to keep the humidity up around them. Unless you have a fruiting tent or room with humidity control.

What happened was your fruiting chamber did not have enough humidity. That's why it's all dried out where you cut the x. It was probably colonized there before, they usually don't sell them uncolonized. It just dried out by the x, that's why it pinned inside the bag, it was more moist in there.
I agree just strip the bag and try to fruit that way at this point. Pinks don't grow very big anyway and you have a lot of pins there, so if they do grow they likely won't be very big. But cool to watch

Thanks everyone. I cut the top of the bag off and they doubled in size overnight. I still believe I will have a decent yield with this block. After I get a flush out of it I plan on breaking it apart and mixing it into larger bags of pasteurized wheat straw. Would this cause too much contamination to form new blocks? Or should I slice into one of the mushrooms and make an LC then use that to inoculate new bags? Do you think this would be a good idea? Also I do not have a fruiting chamber. I am misting them every 4-6 hours.

I haven't had much luck trying to break up a block into a new sub, at that point it's a bit tired, you'd probably be better going another route. But hey it's oysters, so I could certainly be proven wrong - definitely not saying it won't work.
