Hi,

I’m contemplating taking shrooms for depression and anxiety and I have a few quick questions I’m curious about and it’d be a huge help if I can get any answers.

Firstly, the only drugs I’ve ever taken was ketamine and weed. The only time I had a remotely bad reaction with weed was edibles. Ketamine I’ve never had a bad reaction (besides nausea) and I’ve reached 110 mg intravenously and had a good time. Also note that I know shrooms isn’t a cure by any means, but can be helpful.

Question 1: What’s a correct dosage for a meaningful, yet non-risky trip for depression/anxiety (no very bad reaction like constant shaking, etc..) . Is 1.5 grams enough to be meaningful or is 2 grams better- seems to be the consensus around this board.

Question 2: What kind of diet is best before shrooms. For ketamine, I usually tasted 4 hours before and only had significant nausea like one out of ten times. I was thinking of taking a bowl oatmeal in afternoon and then waiting 4 hours fasting and take them to minimize nausea.

Question 3:

How should I prepare for a meaningful trip? Some seem to say you should write things down that you seek to answer, while others say that you should just let yourself trip and let it lead you with an open mind. I’m not sure which is better.

Question 4: What’s good to have it with and in what form to minimize nausea and maximize the trip. I was thinking of grinding it and putting it in orange juice and mixing it. I’ve heard people say a smoothie is good, but the foam can cause nausea.

I’m also thinking about taking a ginger capsule before. Not sure if this is a good idea.

Question 5:

Assuming the trip lasts for 6 hours or so, how do I sufficiently get out of a bad trip. Would Valium be good and safe?

1.5 to 2 grams isnt a bad idea


I like to take a shower during the comeup and then go get in my bed.


Tea is the best way to consume. Eliminated nausea, reduces come up time.

Bad trips are pretty rare on low doses in a good setting. If you start to feel bad, just allow yourself to feel that way then ease yourself back to baseline. Sing a happy song if you really have to haha.

What is your diet the day of? Is it best to fast for a few hours before?

To help avoid discomfort as shrooms are already taxing on the digestive system... a lot of people do fast.  However, you also need energy to get through the trip, so you can also eat light, easy to digest food.

Yea i think you are worse off to starve yourself. This is just my belief, but your normal diet is probably fine.

You dont want intense hunger and lighheaded-ness playing a roll in the trip.


I also find that I cant eat tripping. So if I want to be able to eat all day then I should eat before.

You seem to prepare well for your first journey - good for you! :thumbup:

I think a lot of the things you ask about are individual, so you just have to try, see what works and find your own way. Some ppl fast all day and some ppl(like myself) dont fair to well without food, so I have a light brekkie and then perhaps a fruit or some juice at lunch. I try to go to a sauna during the day, that takes away a lot of physical(and mental) tension.

I usually do the lemon tek, reduces nausea for me, plus I like a fairly quick come up. I simmer it twice, and second time with freshly grated ginger(again, to beat nausea) then mix it all with at least a tablespoon or two or honey(balances all the lemon, plus the carbs are good for this type of brain-intense activity:cool:)

What gives meaning to a trip is a willingness to learn and to integrate insights into your daily life. I usually write down some questions or set an intention, but the trip usually takes me somewhere else lol...

1-2 grams will be a good starting dose. Mushrooms seems to be very gentle with beginners.

You didnt mention setting, but since you are going for therapeutic reasons I´d recommend laying in silent darkness, or perhaps with some ambient music in headphones.

You will prolly experience some doubt and resistance on the day of the trip, or the days leading up to it. This is normal, so don't worry about it, it won't affect your trip. If you get some bad/sad news or have a big fight, you may consider postponing it.

This is kinda tricky. I would say 2.5 grams is better than 1.5 grams, 2 grams over 1.5 for sure. The thing is with too small a dose you can get stuck in a negative kind of situation where you aren't really trippin yet have a weird body buzz and mindfuck which isn't fun. 2.5 grams is kind of a safe sweet spot as it's enough to give you a nice taste of a full trip with some fun visuals. You don't need to fast for any crazy long time, just wait four or five hours after your last meal before you dose up. Avoid dairy and really heavy foods that day though (post trip it's fine). At 2.5 grams & under you shouldn't need a Valium to bail you out. They do reduce a trip and normalize your body and headspace out quite a bit if you're having too intense an experience. You really shouldn't need one on such a low dose though. Having a good mellow playlist is ideal for tripping imo, so it wont hurt if you set one up pre-trip! It is great getting lost in some music while tripping.

Great advice InfiniteDreams.

OP, I have type 1 diabetes so have to be careful when fasting then “exercising”. But I always fast 6+ hours before every trip. I will have a solid bacon and sausage sandwich at work for breakfast at around 8am, then dose at around 5pm. I sometimes have a light sandwich at 12 noon.

So I do the lemon tea method. See link above, very similar to what I do but without adding sugar or flavouring, only lemon and water. When I have drunk the glass, I rinse it out with about 150ml orange juice. Completely gets rid of the taste of lemon and mushrooms, I get generally no nausea, a really fast come up. But this orange juice will maintain my blood sugar usually for four or five hours; I have never “hypo’d” while,tripping (that would be a living nightmare!!!), and after about four or so hours, the hunger kicks in and I can eat solid food without the mushrooms making me nauseous.

Works well for me, hope it may give you some food for thought.
