6 or 7 QT Grain vs 5 QT? Is it better?

Would using 6 or 7 qts grain per tub be any better as far as yield vs using 5 qts per tub? Im using 66qt tubs.
I saw a thread a while back where this guy had a 1lb yield using 7 qts spawn. I was using two of these 2 lb pre-made bags per tub previously and I think it was not quite enough, It was more like 3.5-4qts total.

From my understanding, the closer your ratio is to 1:1, the faster your spawn will colonize the substrate and you'll also have more fruits. Anything over 1:1, meaning more spawn than substrate, is overkill. Someone with a little more experience should chime in though.

I use 650g Coir, 2qt. Verm. which is about 9-10qt total when hydrated.
I did use more grain this run 5 qts. and the tubs colonized fast, 4 days vs the normal 7-10 days previously when using 3.5-4 qt. (was using the stupid premade bags)

Yeah I follow the same tek you do for substrate. I've heard of people using up to 8 or 9 qts of grain for 9-10 qts of substrate with awesome results. I think most people stick with 5-7 because after a certain point it's a waste of grains. But like I said, I'm a noob myself so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Grain prep is a bitch. I lost several bags but for my first attempt, it was not bad and 80% of them survived.

The only thing that has kept me from using bags is that you cant do g2g transfers with them. I do agree that prepping grain is a major PITA though.

Are you using MS syringes or LC to inoculate your bags?

even 1:1 is overkill.
most edible farms do something like 1:20 or something crazy. i prefer 1:3 or 1:4. good way to stretch your spawn
1:1 and 1:4 colonize and fruit almost at the same speeds. maaaaaybe 1:4 is like a day slower bfd.

1:1 often colonized faster but doesn't always pin any faster. You may get more fruits per tub at 1:1 but you'll get more per qt at 1:4

It doesn't matter what i think of you...all that matters is clean spawn I'm tired do me a favor

If you're growing small-scale (e.g., a shoebox here and there for personal consumption), would you recommend 1:1 rather than 1:2 or 1:3?
I've been feeling lately like my most recent grows have been less impressive than my earlier ones. Last summer, I was having good luck getting really dense, even pinsets and thick flushes with few sidepins, and maintaining surface conditions through the first flush was easy. Now it seems like my subs are taking much longer and getting dry really easily, and what does come in is smaller and sparser. Obviously climate plays some role here, and maybe I was just luckier back then with multispore genetics, but the main difference in tek is that I used to do 2 qts spawn to 2 qts sub (typically CVG) and now use less spawn (1:2 or 1:3). Can't think of anything else that that's different so hoping going back to that will help.

Yes you can. Basically bags are the last step before tubs. You inoculate master jars with a culture, expand that master jar to more jars, then expand those jars to bags with 4qt each then each bag goes to 1 tub.
Filthyknees and lotkid do 1qt to 10 bags, thats a 1:40 ratio if each bag has 4qts of grain.
Bags make it so you can run 50 tubs without needing a 200 jars
