Possibly a reason for concern?
    #26421128 - 01/07/20 01:32 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

As many times as I've done shoeboxes, I've never had an issue with any type of contamination during colonization(had a pretty good run I guess) - anyway, all of my other boxes look great, checked this one out today and noticed this green spot on the surface.

Here's some pictures below.. any thoughts of advice would be appreciated. Thanks fellas

Def contamination. I get that at times. I want to say it's Trich, but I'm no expert with molds/bac. I'd either toss, or try to let it fruit outside if weather permits.

This is good advice. Don't increase your spore load

For sure - I'll ditch it. Glad I several at a time:lol: Think it would have caused a concern opening the lid within my area? Just checked it out today.

If your other spawn was clean, they should all be good. Might want to wipe shit down around where you do SAB work...

Opening it will spread spore. Imo I'd bleach what you can. You'll be ok though

Meh, well I opened it by my closet and my other boxes are on the top shelf. I think it'll all be good.. other spawn is looking extremely healthy with pinning and knotting showing.

Just going to pitch this box and leave my other ones alone.

I forgot who but somebody recently had an outbreak of shoeboxes going moldy before fruiting, and suspected it was something in the batch of coir he was using. I want to say it was black though not green.

Anyway yours doesn’t look like trich so maybe it’s salvageable if you leave it out of the growroom.

I saw this as well. Did they say why they thought it was that specific brand? Additives? I cant remember

I did an experiment and had this exact problem with every tub I cased with coir. Same green spored mould

I "cased" these ones with coir this time. I never have done it before. Was trying something differently. But this seems to be the only one that has a green spot or showing any sign of contamination.

I took it out of the room and put it under the bed in the spare bedroom - just may let it sit down there and see what happens.  Not really going to get any light - but meh, doesn't really bother me too much. If it fruits, it fruits. If not, I have several back ups.

This is just a fun grow anyway. Don't even need mushrooms - just enjoy the hobby:lol:

Right on man.

I love the coir top layer, it was a game changer for me with my no humidity grow room.

If it was mine, I'd cut out the area and move it somewhere away from everything to see what it does

I personally feel a coir casing leads to contamination. This is NOT popular opinion but idc. I believe it

That's speculation at best. Coir doesnt cause contamination:facepalm:

Why position yourself to go against facts? If you have contamination it's because your spawn is dirty.

Saying coir casing causes contamination is like saying a herb seasoning made your turkey overcooked.

Lol this is like the third thread this has happened in.

We’ve definitely got the data pool on this site to prove it.
