Bottom of Grain bags taking forever to colonize.

Is it normal for the bottom of grain bags to take a while longer to colonize? The bags have been around 85-95% colonized for several days, room temp 75F, and it seems the colonization has slowed on the last bit.

They're done. It noticed the size and shape of it's container and it knows it can't keep growing.

I have a grain bag with some of the grains turning very dark. does this look contaminated? It colonized about 50%, I just broke it up.

He may be right I dont have experience with bags but am curious to here more responses and intend to follow
Got pics ππ?
Is there moisture build up towards the bottom? Metabolites or noticable bacteria? Was there any noticable stalling? Initial colonization, after shake
Timecube could be 100% correct, these are good questions to ask in order to trouble shoot. I'm a newb

-------------------- But if you're in a hurry, and really got to go If you're in a hurry, might have to find out slow That it's one thing to try and another to fly You get there quicker just a step at a time It's one thing to bark, another to bite The show ain't over till you pack up at night

That looks very unhappy but if you just just broke it up, bruising can occur so might not be bad. Bottoms taking a long time can mean either too wet (which they donβt look) or bacteria to fight.

It had the dark discoloration well before I broke it up, and it is definitely stalled. The 2nd bag with same strain is already done and has been done for approximately 5 days now.
Normally I use 2 bags per tub, I shall throw the other bag that is good into a smaller tub.
I find this a benefit of using 2 or more bags per tub, if one goes bad then you will still get some Fruits.
On my first few runs I lost 25% of the bags total. I suppose that is not too horrible considering I just started making my own bags. I think I over stuffed the Pressure Cooker, and too much moisture was in some of the bags after I PC them.

I just reread your post and realized it was one of those rye bags. They go bag all the time but might get a good one here and there. I've had a 50/50 rate and just started with agar asap. It's cheap and we can guide you through the process with tons of threads here to learn from.
Here is a good bag at 26 days and one shake at day 21. Squeeze the bag and sniff the filter patch. If it smells like sour mash it's bad. Any time I've seen gray grains they were bad.

I feel the moisture levels were off as some bags with the same strains had different colonization times.. I am assuming this is due varying moisture content.
What size bags are you using and how many quarts per bag? Also how many quarts per tub? I have some 5"x8" that fit 3qts, and also some larger 7 qt bags that I may experiment with.
I have my first agar grow also going, which the first flush is not too great,I am not sure why but I am guessing its just not the best genetics, as I had 2 tubs prior to this in the same growing conditions with a very good pinset, and great full flush from MS syringe.
