Underheated/Overheated Coir

recently been over run with black whisker mold in my substrate, jars were fine. I rushed the bucket Tek and they only sat in hot tap water for about 5-10 mins , They’re all from the same batch of coir. it also mentions overheating being an issue as it probably wasnt cool enough to add spawn. is this a likely culprit? I also ended up ripping up the carpet in my grow room and found the whole floor is cover in thick black mold. I know this usually doesn't effect a grow but its a lot of mold.

Black Whisker Mold – Doratomyces spp.
This fungus produces black powdery spores that appear as smoke when disturbed. This mold indicates the presence of certain carbohydrates in the compost at spawning time. It also indicates that the straw has been incompletely caramelized or underheated in Phase I (therefore, carbohydrates are in a form easily utilized). The proportion of carbohydrates, particularly cellulose, may be too high. The black whisker mold is also present in compost that overheated during spawn run. Simple carbohydrates are utilized by this fungus but it can also utilize lignin. Doratomyces, Aspergillus, and Penicillium produce copious numbers of spores and may cause respiratory problems (nasal and throat irritation, chest congestion, breathing difficulty, etc.).

That's from your grain spawn you can use cold tap water to hydrate your coir and/or you can sterilize at 250f.
Bricks are also made under compression at 700f. so its impossible to 'over/under heat'.

Woah woah woah one problem at a time
Adding spawn to hot coir can kill the spawn so that could be an issue for sure.
Underheated coir likely isnt the issue as I’ve seen plenty of grows pulled off with cold tap water coir, but depending on your coir and water source it does have a slim possibility
Black mold + carpet are two things I’d definitely never want in my lab. Sounds like you should find a new place to live If I’m being completely honest, or at least gut the place bleach the walls and lay vinyl flooring to seal the mold off from your living space. That shit can kill you and I think can also cause auto immune diseases.

Yeah there’s a type of black mold that’s serious.
If you have a landlord you might want to hit them up, otherwise be careful and I’m not positive but i think the city can condemn the house or some shit until it’s cleaned up if it’s the dangerous kind.

Yeah I use hot tap in my coir and never have issues for years. I’ve also used cold tap with no issues either.

I use hot cause I don’t like mixing cold shit with my hands. But it’s just tap water hot, not a kettle
