Hi, does anyone know anyone in the UK selling the thick synthetic filter discs?
I'm not a fan of polyfil lids so just been using tyvek squares with micro tape over top. I ordered some SFD 90mm from an online UK supplier but the material was only slightly thicker than tyvek.
I'm after the thick ones that I can cut 10mm circles out from and epoxy them to my grain jar lids.
I've searched online and cant find them anywhere!

They are all good but I have to be honest There is no difference between my sfd lid, polyfil lids, and micropore lid. So I dont bother anymore i just use 3 layers of MP tape.

I like the sound of this! Gonna give this a go.
The polyfil I got off amazon wasnt like long fibres it just broke apart really easy so never felt tight in the lids.
3 layers of micropore tape seems like such an easier method.
Thanks

I ordered some 90mm ones from cylocybe (they seem thick enough - not sure how thin were the ones you have) - each produces 7 equally sized filters that can be glued to lids with silicon. I found that would use the most surface and roughly circled using 2eurocent coins.

Yeah I guess I'll have to use micropore for now and order from them when they reopen on the 10th.
What size hole do you all use for GE I've got plastic lids so just melt them with a soldering iron.

Iirc 8mm drill bit not 100% sure it really doesnt matter that much if its a bit less or more your adding a filter anyway, just dont go crazy and do 20mm cut with a hole saw

The bigger the hole the more layers of MP tape

I did mine with 6mm (roughly translates to 1/4 inch?) as per a lot of lid TEK guides here.

You are right. I did mine using cut SFDs pieces - so too big of a hole would have been a problem to glue the filter on.

I heard of someone who just filled their jars half full with grain and used plastic lids. Then after PC'ing he'd just heat the MS syringe needle up red hot and pierce through the lid itself and then cover with micropore tape.
I've got a couple spare plastic lids so might give it a go next time round although I expect they'll stall out or won't even germinate at all.

Spores to grains is generally frowned upon - you can carry a lot of contaminants into the jar that way. Spores are never truly axenic (contaminant free).
