Hey all! New here, hope this will be an informative forum. Anyway I had a question about grow kits, I am not very handy when it comes to diy flowering/colonizaization chambers. Does anyone know of any good kits i can get. I have the spores I just need the stuff to grow it in. I was looking at gorillakits.com Anyone have any experience with this product? Or can you recommend something better? Im trying to harvest as much as possible but this is my first run and am a total newb, so im not expecting to pull anything massive but would like to one day. Anyway any help would be appreciated, thanks,

Growkits are known to fail. Especially for unexperienced cultivating. If you have spores. Agar is going to be your new best friend.
Look into agar work. Get a clean culture and transfer to grains for bulk or a brf cake.
Definitely read all the stickies at the top of the forum. Especially bods info on getting started.

Hey there, I'm in agreement that kits suck (I've had one before).
You seem enthusiastic to learn which is great, don't let those kits ruin your ride if you start with spores and agar you will not be disappointed

Ok y’all convinced me, no grow kits. I should clarify that the spores I had came in a water solution, and I’ve already inoculated in grain bags. The problem I’m having now is their sitting in a dark closet and it’s like 70 degrees in there. Is that a warm enough temperature to colonize in? Or should I make a colonization chamber? I don’t want to make a chamber if it’s not necessary. Thanks.

temps fine dark is not needed but it sounds to me like u bought pre made bags?? if so you prolly just doubled your chances of failure as those are a crapshoot anyway and spores to grain is also a good way to ensure failure but since you already did it just leave it on a shelf somewhere not in the dark and at room temp and see what happens i guess and if it doesnt then you can start over the right way

Spores to grain is almost universally a bad idea.

Should be fine for where it is, usually want to colonize a little warmer around 78f-82f and no need for a chamber IMO. For grain bags I would spawn to bulk when full colonized.

I had great success with two grow kits when I started (Golden Teachers from the Netherlands). I took some clones from them, cleaned them and started from there. Also I took some spore prints (just as a backup).
So IMHO you can very well start with a grow kit and take nice specimen from there.
Still using agar is the preferred way to go. After I used those clones and spore prints on agar, I understood what the guys here mean by saying: "Grow Kits suck" :-D

Thanks for the info, I didn’t know this wasn’t an optimal procedure. All the videos I watched on YouTube used grain, wasn’t aware of other methods. Guess I’ll just give it a try see how it turns out, still have bunch of spore solution left should it fail. Ok so after about how many days should the mycelium start to show should it turn out well? And how many days if nothing happens should I just try a different method. Sorry for being growing ignorant.

Usually around a week for germination, 3-4 weeks to fully colonize. Best way to learn is by trial and error, no amount of YouTube videos can teach you better than the mistakes we make learning.

Before going on, I apologize to all the DIY purest out there that don’t believe in kits. With my work schedule and other commitments, I simply don’t have time to invest in DIY. I know your comments will not be friendly but a Kit worked quite well for me
I support Gorilla Kit 100%. After I learned how to inoculate in a sterile environment, the Gorilla Kit worked fantastically.
Here are pics of my first successful grow. This was a spore inoculation of rye grains that were spawned in an aluminum tray and placed in the kit... grain jars/casing purchased from Gotilla kits.. This is PF classic, which I’ve read is quite difficult to successfully bulk grow.

I’ve started the process for the second flush and am hopeful in another week it will be much bigger than the first.
The owner is very helpful/friendly and will mentor you through the process if you reach out to him and communicate. I recommend the gorilla kits for the hobbyist that may not have the time to research and build a setup. The kit won’t help you inoculate in a sterile environment but if you get that down, the Gorilla Kit (FAME) will take care of the rest.
I think my first bulk grow of PF Classic is reasonable enough evidence.

Why is it you say that? That's the natural start point dude. You can't get mycelium till you inoculate spawn grain. If you can't grow mycelium from spawn grain you need to get s different hobby
