I bet that was pretty cool! Ours was not 3D IMAX lol.

Me and a bunch of friends waaaayyyy back in the day, 1997 (or was it 98'?) when Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas was released -- went to see it at the theater on acid.
The movie flopped miserably at the theaters and even during its first week at that particular theater we saw it (a suburb of Dallas), when we went it was our group of 6 people and then a group of four others in the theater.
That was it.
The rest of the theater was completely empty.
It was incredible. It felt like we were with Duke & Dr. Gonzo and in Las Vegas on this epic psychedelic bender for the ages. It was beyond words, man. And we were laughing hysterically to the point where we left with our sides literally hurting.
But one friend had to kill the entire thing by freaking out and saying he had to leave because the theater seat was making him claustrophobic. We tried to calm him down but it didn't work so we ended up leaving at about midway point.
I think we left around the time Dr. Gonz was freaking out at the carousel bar. I'm sure that's what wigged him out.
But yeah. Good times, good times.

For years that was as far as I got with that movie. Seeing it to the halfway point at the theater on LSD.
Then probably like 5 years later I ordered the DVD (it was not an easy DVD to locate at that time, believe me). I don't even know if Amazon existed then
So that long after seeing half of it in the theater, I finally got my hands on DVD, some mushrooms (that was the first night I ever lemon tek'd) and for the first time finished it.

I still haven't seen it. I keep saying I will see it on Acid, but still haven't gotten around to it.
I gotta order that DVD this year and achieve this movie goal

Dude!!! You've never seen Fear & Loathing?!?!?

Yeah man one night you gotta do it. Watch it on the back half of the trip though when you're relaxed and settled in nicely into your trip.
Even though a lot of it is hysterical, and it is considered a comedy (a dark comedy albeit), it gets pretty intense in spots and you probably wouldn't want to watch it on the come up.

I know it sounds completely impossible, but yes. Ive been "saving" for that day I get some wild Acid. I do have some mystery acid which is more subdued but it will have to do!

Fear and Loathing, Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Brazil, Monte Python and the Holy Grail. All Terry Gilliam movies and great on LSD.
I don't think I could watch Cats sober or tripping. I might be dismissing it too early without knowing much about it though.

Niffla, I too saw Fear & Loathing in the theater, but not on acid. My gf at the time & I took her little sister, for some reason. She was like 12 and knew nothing about drugs, aside from the fact that we smoked weed. She was very confused.
And speaking of confusion- a movie I DID see in the theater on acid was The Matrix. It looked cool as hell, but I was having the kind of trip where facts & details were flying over my head, and I remember leaving the theater really frustrated because I had no clue wtf the movie was about. But my friends really liked it and I didn’t want to be left out, so I went back a week later to watch it not-tripping, lol.

Yeah The Matrix, on a nice dose...especially peaking would be like

It would be both epic and hyper confusing at the same time I'd imagine

Ok, apologies to viraldrome, but I’m gonna go even further OT for a moment. I reread the comment I made in the beginning of this thread, and remembered a part of that Freddy vs Jason experience that made it even more fun. Below is an irrelevant and stupid story, don’t read it if you’re not in the mood.
Back when I was in my early 20s, I lived in a crappy town in a mostly rural area. Our local theater sucked, so we’d usually drive like 40 minutes away to a nicer one. A whole group of us went to see Freddy vs Jason, like probably 8-10 people in several cars. A bunch of us took acid like an hour before the movie started. We had a great time watching it, and then something funny happened as we left.
We walk out of the cineplex into the night, high and in high spirits, and remember something all of us had completely forgotten- our one friend had locked his keys in his car before the movie, and so as to not have to deal with AAA afterwards, he decided to forego the movie to wait for roadside assistance. No one was thinking about him since we said “see ya” before the movie, and when we came out and he was sitting on his car’s hood in the mostly-empty parking lot, idk we just collectively lost it. I feel kinda bad because he looked so defeated, but we were just howling with laughter at how ridiculous it all was. He missed the whole movie just to sit by himself in a parking lot past midnight, and back then no one had smartphones or anything, you just had to do nothing while you waited. I remember one of my friends urging him to break a window- “just drop a ‘bow on it, Louie!” Kind of a dick move to laugh at him, but going from forgetting about his whole situation to seeing him there while I was tripping balls was just really funny. We ended up waiting with him for the locksmith guy to get there, which was just minutes after we got out of the movie, haha. That poor bastard.

It's based on TS Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats" https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000cp28
This programme talks about the "stars and creative driving forces of the original production of Cats share their memories".
