How do you do, fellow Shroomers!
It's my first ever attempt to grow shrooms. Got an ambitious plan to try and get prints then, do proper agar work and start a monotub, but so far it's only a growkit.
Easy as pie, as per instruction all I do is sprinkle water and let some air in in the bag once in a while, shrooms are popping up, happy days. They do look a bit peculiar though, not sure if they're in good shape, hence this post. Stems are very thick and caps rather small, unlike any pictures I've seen online. It's McKennai strain. Are they all good? Will they grow healthy, fit for reproduction and consumption? Pictures attached, please have a look and do comment.

Also - can you please recommend a heating contraption for a growbag? Ideally one that could be used with a monotub later on. I live in a rather cold environment, about 17*C at home on a normal day, so far I've been heating a whole room up to about 20-22*C just for those few little pins, but I'd prefer to only heat what needs to be warm. Heard about heatmats - apparently not recommended because of their tendency to overheat. How about an aquarium heater? They come with a thermostat, can be set to any precise temperature, but need to be submerged in water. There is some water inside the growbag anyway, so I guess I could put it there, or maybe put it in a bowl, fill with water and let the growkit float on it? Anyone tried that?
Thanks so much!

Congrats on your first time.
I started my first grow without agar and went straight from syringe to quart jars of Wild Bird Seed then after fully colonizing I broke it up and mixed it with coir/vermiculite bulk (Damion 50/50) into an aluminum/tinfoil tray. Kept it cover and allowed it to colonize it some more and then put into monotubs and shotgun tubs.
Not sure what kinda substrates you are using in the kit but if you end up using more wholesome grains like millet, milo, corn, rye berries, or even rye grass seed you will be able to do what is called a grain 2 grain (G2G) where you can pull mycelium from a fully colonized jar and transfer it into uncolonized jars.
Also be sure to learn how to make clean sterile prints and make prints every chance you have!
As far as heating goes, do what ever it takes to reach your ideal temperature. In my experience (which maybe different now days) I would come onto shroomery and be told 20 different ways to heat my grows and some worked well, others didn't. I tried the bucket of water and a fish tank heater. We've also tried heating pads. What I found best (growing in a walk-in closet/pantry) was getting a small cheap space heater and a thermostat like this and setting it to ideal temperatures.
I've also learned that even though a warmer temperature maybe optimal for cubes it may also be optimal for competitor fungi like trichoderma (green mold). Learning and feeling for what's best literally comes with time but I wouldn't worry too much, I honestly think it's the funnest part.
Remember to have fun with it. I know everyone likes the end result of massive and potent fruits but, it's the adventure getting there that is most fun, and what helps us grow into smart, patient, dope ass at home mycologists.

Thanks for the reply!
I might try that - straight to grain, but it seems to me that agar work migt be interesting and not that difficult. And then it seems that taking prints is the most risky step, you can't get them really clean since caps didn't grow in sterile environment. So without agar everything might easily get contaminated.
I'm going to read more on all that, still have time. Just hope those caps should turn out fine. So far they look a bit dubious. From what I just read it seems that it might be not enough light, fresh air, or too much water, will try to amend all this. As to heating, just found on the forum a great idea on how to heat air with a fish tank heater that has to be submerged in water - just put it in a bottle: heatbomb - genius!
