Substrate question
    #26417774 - 01/05/20 03:29 PM (4 years, 24 days ago)

I made a substrate of coco coir and verm around 12/07/19.  Ive had some left over it and kept it sealed in a Lowes painters bucket.  How long is that good for?  Should i re-hydrate the mix if it is still good?

You know I was going to spawn 2qts of ape clone to some I made on the 30th I think. Both my jars are bacterial anyhow and I'm being lazy. I think it might be okay but it also might not. 50/50 maybe. Maybe less than that success wise. Idk.
Good luck

It depends on a lot of things, like how dirty your bucket was and did you sterize the sub or do the boiling water bucket tek? Has it been kept cold or was it warm enough for any nasties to start growing?

If you had it sealed though, you shouldn't need to re-hydrate.
I can't answer your questions and really no one can.  It's probably less than ideal so use it if you're willing to accept the risk or don't use it if you're willing to accept the loss of materials

That's how I feel about it. It's ok either way. Mine was last effort to not toss the jars so I gave it a shot.

Thank you guys for answering.  I am very new.  Ive only attempted one tub.  Makes a lot of sense that there's a lot of variables to my situation.  I appreciate you two reaching out and answering.  Im gonna risk a spawn and hope that life finds a way.

I have used sub that was hydrated the left in bucket for 3 weeks and did not appear to diminish yield. That doesn't mean it will always be ok or that I recommend doing so. Just one anecdote.
