Hey yall i have been using spitballs method of preping rye: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/20048765#20048765
I left a pot to soak for 24hrs and i opening it up and it smelled something fierce. My first guess is the sulfur in the gypsum but who knows. I emptied the water and rinse about 4 times before boiling for 20 minutes. Its drying off at the moment but my question is: Is it usable? I have plenty more grain handy so i have no issue tossing it. Would the pc take care of any bacterial infection? I dont plan on soaking this long ever again, i would love to hear what y'all have to say!
It smells like creamed corn almost, like corn in a cup.

As long as its sterilized properly id say my own concern would be moisture content. They're gonna be saturated.

I ended up tossing it but thanks for the info! Would you have rinsed it off before loading if one is to skip the boil?

For sure. I always rinse the starches off. That way the grains are easier tobreak up later. Its hard to say because i wasnt there to smell it but if im thinking of the same smell its almost a fermenting scent right?
