Pins Aborting?

After getting a small flush from this batch I immediately saw a large number of pins coming in. I figured I would get a second flush but they seem to have all frozen/aborted. The only thing I have been doing is misting heavily to keep the substrate moist. Any thoughts on what is the most likely cause? Too wet?
Thanks in advance!

In my experience, when the caps turn black like that it has been an aborted pin.

That doesn't mean a second flush isn't coming. Just be patient and let the water have a chance to evap.
Start more projects if you're impatient.

I haven't had issues keeping the moisture levels good for the first flush but it seems the fruits pull a lot of moisture from the coir and it begins to separate from the sides and even from itself in some places. I haven't figured out the balance for that stage.
I am also thinking I need more spawn which would create a substrate that would hold itself together better.

The whole thing doesn’t look healthy, I’m not experienced enough to say exactly why but I want to say it’s too wet or jumping from too wet to too dry a lot.

That shit looks sopping wet. Give air now, not water. They aren't aquatic fungi.

Imo the bigger thing people miss about surface moisture is cycling it. Everyone tried to keep it super moist at first. You wanna give it time to evaporate then once that happens mist lightly. Let evap happen and repeat

Thanks. That confirms what I thought. My last run dried up after the first flush so I suppose I over-compensated.

They were probably aborts from the first flush It usually takes about a week for the 2nd one to kick in Your sub looks really wet, I would avoid the heavy misting since too dry is better than too wet

Did you try soaking the sub for a little after each flush? I get some waterlogged looking fruits sometimes but overall it seems to help a lot.

When you're adding more moisture to a dry sub without a dunk you wanna measure out X amount of ml and pour straight to the bottom lifting up the sub some That's what I've read I might be able to find the thread that's in my head for you to refer to but for now I hope you look into it and provide the answer. I'm at work but its definitely a better approach to heavy misting. That will cause pooling on the surface of your substrate

I wanted to do a submerge but the mycelium isn't full enough to hold it together. Thus why I am going to go from 1.5 jars to 3 next time.
Thanks for all the insight!
