Does my tub look OK?

I just spawned it to coir/verm on the 1st, it looks almost ready to fruit. I'm concerned it could be a contam because the myc doesn't look as white as I remember it but upon closer inspection it seems darker because of the moisture on the surface. Should I try to fruit it now or wait a little longer?

Fruit it. Definitely time.
You don’t need to do spawn run anymore lots of people go straight into fruiting now with no difference.
Looks good though what kind?
My maz always runs super fast and thick like that it’s nice.

These are Hawaiians from a honey LC. I haven't tried agar yet but I'm definitely considering it.

Yeah a buddy of mine is gonna help me build a flowhood then I'll give it a go.
Hedberg is easily in my top 5. That dude was so charmingly goofy and really had a presence. I was too young to really drive to comedy shows when he was big; I would've loved to see him live.

Tub looks good to fruit. I still incubate until full colonization also.

Me too man I was too young until a couple years before he died and I lived right by la so I used to go to comedy shows a lot. Bummed I missed out.
A still air box works great I was gonna do a hood at first too but the box ended up being so effective I just don’t see the point unless you have extra money and room. It’s literally like 10 bucks for a huge work space.
You could use the hood money and buy a few thousand plates with agar to fill them lol.
It’s addicting though I got my little test sleeve and then immediately after I started ordered a case of plates. It’s just so cool to be able to clone and pick genetics and stuff.
Not to mention having super clean spawn.
If you end up going for it I’d recommend getting a plate of each variety you’ve got going right away and then taking a couple transfers of each. That way you can throw them in a drawer and you have a bunch of myc grown out for whatever you randomly feel like growing. Just dig out those transfer plates and throw them in a jar and you’re set.

Try casing with coir next time. IME I get faster and fuller pin sets

Doesn't that just make it take longer though? It feels like just adding another empty layer for it to colonize before it fruits.

It won't add much time if any at all. Often the casing is not fully colonized because the substrate will automatically fruit when it's ready.
I use a quart or so as casing at spawning but I also have my tubs in fruiting conditions from spawning so I don't have to remove and add tape when colonized.
Looking good.

My current experiment: with casing and without, both were added to sub at the same time I don’t know why it works, it just does

Casing or top layer??
I think the reason it helps so much is all the normally exposed fluffy myc is protected by the wet coir so it can suck all the water out and send it to the knots, which for me are usually the only thing poking through.

I thought they were the same thing?

An actual casing is something with no nutrients, most people use a peat moss/verm mix.
For any cubes besides PE they might as well be the same thing though.
Did something happen to that back left corner in your pic?
It’s like the myc grew a half circle around it for some reason and then everywhere else is solid pins.
