- 1968: Millbrook is raided yet again

MILLBROOK - There was another confrontation between Dutchess County deputy sheriffs and residents of Dr. Timothy Leary's "community" here last night [January 5, 1968]. The result: seven arrested, including Dr - Leary's 17 - year - old son, John. According to Chief Sheriffs Deputy Charles Borchers, he end nine deputies entered the Hitchcock estate at around 6 .p.m., armed with bench warrants for the arrest of two persons wanted for testimony before the grand jury which is investigating the activities of ' Leary's "community." Released in $2,500 bail. Barry Cohen. 18, 423 Garden St., East Meadow. Charged with criminal possession of a dangerous drug, fourth degree. Remanded to jail in lieu of $1,50( bail - Gerald E. Griffin. 19, Millbrook. Charged with criminal possession of a dangerous drug. fourth degree. Jailed in lieu of $1,500 bail. William Haines, 39, Millbrook. Charged with refusing to aid a police officer. Released in $1,000 bond. Harold Druch, 22, Millbrook Charged with refusing lo aid a police officer. Released in $1,000 bond. Theodore Druch. 27, Millbrook. Charged with refusing to aid a police officer Released in $1,000 bond. Steven Lubrano, 24, Millbrook. Charged with refusing to aid p police officer. Released in $1,000 bond. Despite appearances, Borchers maintained the incident "definitely was not a raid."

I love that charge. Refusing to aid police officers. Sounds like everyone was stand up in this situation. People need to take a good lesson from this
