What to do with a spore swab? 1

I recieved a free gift of a Penis Envy swab.
What's the best way to start a grow from this?
Is it a case of swabbing some agar plates and growing it out? How many plates can 1 swab be used for?
Or is it possible to turn it into a MS syringe?

Swipe a few plates like normal. Then in one last dish just stab it into the agar and leave it. On my last swab, the plate where I stuck the swab into the agar was the only one that grew anything.

Can you swipe a plate then put the swab back for later or will the agar get into it and germ the spores??

I wouldnt think that's a good idea... if the nutes dont germ the spores they'll germ some undesirables...

Maybe scrape some spores off with a sterile scalpel?

Swab a plate with it. Check my links I have a write up. I find it easier than a spore loop.
Aka I would not do that. I think of swabs as a one use type of deal. Swab several plates.

What about using sterile swabs to transfer spores to agar from the original swab? Seems to me like it might get some extra mileage out of the spore swab. Or maybe it's a lame idea. Haven't tried.

I think I saw someone suggest using a scalpel to take a small bit of the qtip onto the agar, leaving the swab able to be taken from again, this made sense to me.

Yea you can pull a couple threads off to try to get it to germ I usually just swab several plates and cut the tip of the swab off into the last plate. I never get germination off of the swabbed plates only the one with the swab tip or threads in it.
Recently someone has brought it to my attention that its probably because my agar is too stiff. I use 10g agar to 500ml water so I started cutting back to 8g per 500ml. I'm hoping this will help with swabbing. I never have any problem with spores from prints only swabs. Hope some of this info is useful to you OP or anyone that reads it. Goodluck.

Thanks yogi and thanks eatyou for the tek, I will be putting the swab to some agar plates. I have a friend who does non active mycology who prepares plates, would you recommend PDA or MEA plates for this?
Regards actually fruiting it I plan on putting a few triangles of the agar plate to rye grain after 2 or 3 transfers in a SAB and then spawn to coir in shoe boxes, sound about right?
This will be my first play with agar so will keep this thread updated.
Thanks for all you guys help it really is appreciated

I had the same issue when I started using my prints for spores. I tried using a mix with 1/2 what the package on the MEA called for, that was too runny, but if I use 60% of what the directions say, no problems. Spores will take right off with a swipe of a q-tip, don’t even need to leave the swab on the agar, just streak the plate and go.
I have much more difficulty getting dried spores to start than I do fresh spores, btw. I switched from old spore prints to fresh spore prints (less than 24 hours old) the third time I tried, and it solved all of my problems immediately.
