Classical Mushroom - Infected Mushroom. Views? * 2
    #26415883 - 01/04/20 11:32 AM (4 years, 1 month ago)

Hey guys,

I want your advice, please. Whenever I trip, I always feel that unless I listen to the music I know and trust, then I am wasting that psychedelic headspace. Don’t know if it’s a psychosis, OCD, or normal.

But I think the more experienced I get with mushrooms, the more they are teaching me to explore and to learn.

Throughout my current readings, I am getting many messages on the therapeutic benefits of music while tripping. I have gone so far as to listen to the playlists on Spotify from the Johns Hopkins psychedelic studies. I reckon one of those could be manageable by me, where the trip intent was “to occasion a mystical experience”.

A Michale Pollan book I am reading (see signature) where he is blown away when he listens to Bach Cello Suites in D Minor. Just tried it and, well for me anyway, it’s boring as hell! Don’t know if I could do that to myself, it would properly cause a conflict in me while tripping, I think.....

So carried on reading and somehow got to Infected Mushroom: Mushi Mushi. Checked it out on iTunes and it’s a real hard trance music with a fast powerful beat. I am not 100% sure whether I’ve tried Infected Mushroom before, as I have a vague memory of asking my wife to turn the music off once as it was freaking me out.

I love Shpongle on mushrooms, and Hawkind. They both tend to use a similar beat, fast but not trance-fast, but very hypnotic.

So please people, any of you have experience listening to trance-style music on shrooms, specifically Infected Mushroom?

Mush love,
DJ Ed

Infected Mushroom is great shit.  Listen to what you like, not to what you don't like, double that for tripping.

You might try Ozric Tentacles, there's some truly awesome psychedelic stuff in there at times.  :seriousthumbsup:

OTOH Bach is the master and has never been beat.  Totally awesome for trip playlists. :cookiemonster:

Yeah I downloaded some ozricntentaclesma while back, good shout. And yes, I will have to try some Bach. I was playing loads of different styles of music at first,  including classical, and yes it did sound heavenly! Then I herd about Shpongle, I think from YourMateTom on YouTube. I should be more disciplined.......

Mush love,
Ed

personally I find very little about psy trance to be actually psychedelic, shpongle and infected mushroom is too intense for me and so doesn't speak to my soul - I know many disagree with me. Mushrooms and more so DMT bonds me to the music of Tycho like no other, it's incredibly warming and peaceful yet packed with emotion. My other favorite psychedelic electronic pieces are "Places EP" by Shlomo and "Alpe Lusia" by Stimming - these albums have really interesting percussion and an enveloping sonic environment full of background sounds sitting beneath the melodies.

music is an incredible tool for culminating mystical experiences even without the use of psychedelics. music or art has always been a central part of shamanism, and on that note I believe a concert of synced dancing individuals is one of western culture's last remaining shaminstic practices. (I am a musician who has been recently studying the spiritual value of music so I could speak on this til my heart gives out) Certain music is better for the mystical experience than others though

you should definitely listen to what you most prefer in a trip with a few exceptions:
to get the most out of mushrooms you need to cultivate a peaceful loving environment so intense sounds like electro dubstep or death metal are probably a bad idea.

If shpongle is mellow enough for you that's great, I am just pained to see people take mushrooms for the first time and listen to materialistic rap or pop music that sings to everything mushrooms truly despise, this will certainly negate a mystical experience.

Peace and Love!

Definitely that.
I think trying to define a universal playlist for psychedelics is pretty odd.
In my own experience, I find my desires change just as they would on any given day.
It should be noted that I like a lot of different music. However, not psy-trance.

My usual go-to for psychedelics is something tranquil like certain classical Indian ragas, trip hop, certain jazz, or some weird ambient electronic vocal stuff. If I am to listen to classical European music, it'll be more along the lines of nocturnes by Frederic Chopin or something avant garde like Erik Satie. - all of this, probably even more boring for your tastes than Bach.

But, if the mood calls for it, I'll find myself listening to some heady heavy metal like Intronaut or Animals as Leaders. Don't know too many who get down on that while tripping, but have met a handful... it has a particular chemistry about it, to say the least, and can be really interesting. I actually think psychedelics are what first got me into heavy music.

Post rock seems to be a nice median for a lot of people - King Crimson, Yes, Gentle Giant, certain Zappa,  Floyd. It just seems to have a psychedelic cadence to it while being quite relatable to a lot of peoples' tastes.

I'm not trying to give you a playlist to listen to, just wanted to further drive home the impossibility of creating an unanimously pleasing psychedelic music.

These days, however, I mostly just listen to trickling streams, crackling fires, and rustling wildlife.

Yeah thank you trippy fish, it’s sortmof what I was thinking. I could always try it, but. I don’t believe it would be beneficial. I like a good rhythmic beat, but not too fast.

I am with you 100% over large masses of people still dancing together. Experienced that tribal mentality at a couple of open air concerts watching bands like Faithless. Stays with you forever.

Thank you,
DJ Ed

I’ve got some “naturespace” stuff that I’ve been considering. Yeah with hindsight psychedelics changed my tastes in music forever. I used to be into punk rock and indie, heavy and reggae (never listened to reggae in psychedelics.....), though still love indie. Then I got into, Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, Gong, The Doors etc. So much so that I completely missed the rave scene in the 80s and 90s. Went to my first rave in 2004 at the tender age of 37!

I hear what people say about Shpongle, but what I particularly like about their music is the way they switch up the beats and rhythms, nd introduce the world music into their tracks - so the music never really gets “boring”.

I am going to have to try classical, at least once. I did try a few classical playlists 3 and a half years ago when I came back to psychedelics and was coming off SSRIs. Even though I wasn’t tripping properly, I still could notice the nuances in the music and the wide open spaces.

I got the full Infected Mushroom album on Spotify last night and listened to it the whole way through, while “straight”. Yeah it sounds really good,  it a couple of times I had to forward to the next track because it was getting monotonously repetitive!

I’m absolutely with “listen to what you enjoy, and on psychedelics double it”. That’s what I was trying to convey when I wa referring to my almost OCD-like feelings on this......

Mush love,
DJ Ed

If you are interested in classical I've always been especially fond of Chopin.

Yes. I left a collection with my ex; well actually she delivered them to my mum and dads house smashed to pieces! But it was 10 cds, each a different composer. Just a flavour, so to speak. I loved it.

I do need to expirement more while tripping, definitely.

Thanks for responding,
DJ Ed
