Yeah man my older plates are so overgrown its just like oysters.
Got pins on 2 shoeboxes now. First one was at 11 days that I thin cased at spawn. Late/thicker casings have the worst overlay now. Spawned 3 boxes today with no top layers and keeping good notes.

Six jars just poured with sslc!! (Lc with a pinch of agar to make it thick).
It better be clean, I can’t wait for this.
I totally forgot to save a few drops to pour on hardwood sawdust just to see what happened.
Gonna make a bunch of different shoeboxes though and try to figure out what it likes.
So far I’m hearing no top layer?

No top layer works for me. Top layer give's me the overlay issue. I don't get any overlay when I leave off a top layer.

The top layer thing is super odd.
I wonder how that could possibly affect the myc so much.
What about 5050 casing?

I think Crackatoa is onto something with no top layers. My worst overlays are thick casings/top layers. The fluffy myc seems to fight through it for fae or something then blob out.

I'm telling you guys I got a feeling about a sand mix substrate with these guys.
Like coir sand straw or hay.

I’m definitely going to print a bunch.
Sock I’ll add that to my list of things to try.
Assuming the lc was clean and all the jars work I have six jars of the same culture to mess with. Not as good as a clone but close enough.
Has anybody run them on manure yet?

Seems like surface conditions is pivotal tho.
14 days thin jiffy case at spawn.

Some worse than others. The ones I've just started with no top layer are showing promise.
I'm on T1 from fresh spores isolating wispier myc we'll see if it gets better.

That’s a really good idea. It could definitely be the same deal as pans where myc selection is important.
My jars all have tiny bits of fuzz already and it’s not even been a day yet so that’s a good sign.

I also had a lot of overlay on the box I put a thick top-layer on. My other two boxes with normal and light top layers had much better pinsets.
I will say, however, that the fruits in the overlaid box, although sparse, had much meatier stipes and larger caps that were great for printing. They looked much more like normal cubes than my other boxes which had pan-like fruits with thin stipes and caps that were dime sized or smaller and gave pitiful prints.
