Here is my latest straw / horse manure / coir shoe box grow:

I am starting to think that Psilocybe Natalensis is very early in the domestication process and these wild genes have a great deal of variability in them to cope with whatever South Africa throws at them.

Those are beautiful man, I really think the plant matter or maybe manure makes the difference. The clone I ran on compost manure came out much healthier looking than straight coir. I know I’ve said it a million times but the color is so much better too.

Speaking of color I left these out of the fruiting chamber for a few hours and some of the stipes dried a bit and turned a beautiful blue green color:

I run low spawn ratios with them. There's one quart spawn to that shoebox. I use straight coir and verm. I don't know if it makes a difference but that quart is like 2-3 months old. I got a couple more, I'm gonna use and hopefully they turn out as well as those did.

Yeah I've been wondering about that... but are other wild cubes from say Texas also known to display such aggression / vigor etc? Or I guess you are saying that they were perhaps challenged more over there in South Africa?
It would explain if all that is similarly true for the Natal Super Strength cubensis variety as well as the very related Ps. natalensis. convergent evolution and all / relatively recent splitting of the species.
So can we talk a bit more about consistent differences observed between the two? It doesn't seem microscopically there are sigificant differences but the annulus missing is one...
Probably too early to say but I wonder if there really is a higher average of potency and if that holds true for both of them vs. the average for (non mutant) cubes?
I grew NSS before but natalensis i only just germinated.

Are we sure "NSS" and "Natalensis" are different?
I am pretty sure earlier in the thread we saw that the sequencing came back as not cubensis, when the sample provided was from "cubensis NSS".
Genetic sequencing notwithstanding, has anyone yet observed any microscopic differences from cubensis in either of these novel varieties?

Just an update. The outdoor crate with the NSS are still continuing to push up the odd shroom. Even getting the odd leucistic/albino trait showing. Wonder if it’s worth cloning to try and isolate the trait.
