That would make sense but the only thing that confused me is that i don't remember that rhizo strand being there. But whatever, I'm not gonna worry about it. Just gonna keep letting it do its thing. Hopefully it gives me pins because I'm sure that other tub is fucked

Man most of mine have taken a month or more to pin and usually on the bottom so I end up flipping the sub. Just wait as long as it’s not super moldy it’ll eventually fruit. I’ve even had some where mold started but it seemed like the myc was so deep it somehow contained the outbreak.

I flipped it last night. I have some more isolated genetics coming up to spawn from the same print. Flipped and put into the Martha, so we shall see.

I think someone asked a question about this, here is South African Transkei (left) compared to Natalensis/NatalSS (right)

Both are growing basically in the same geographical area/environment afaik, but they are completely different in their own way.

Well Folks... Yesterday I got a little package from a spore vendor in South Africa One set of spores is labeled Natal Super Strength and the other is labeled Natalensis. I’m going to germinate them side by side, transfer to the same grains side by side, then the same substrate side by side ... and we’ll just see what happens!

Now we just need the genetic stuff results and well have some solid info. Although I guess running the two prints is a sort of primitive genetic test.
I’m kinda surprised nobodies tamed the natalensis by now.

I think psilo is about the closest to taming these things as anyone's gotten.

Thanks Cam I'm not out yet either just took a break. My South African shipment should be a couple days behind psilo's so we'll be doubling up on the same tests. Or maybe I'll run a slightly different sub or ratio.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Myc_Hunt!
I’ve got a shoe box going right now that looks almost ... Normal! I’ll post a photo of it soon. It has a very nice pinset started.
I made sure Eat had some of these genetics. If anyone can figure it out it’s Eat!

Here is that shoe box I was talking about. I thought I’d take the photo now before the plague got to them. I have a situation where I think fungus gnats are spreading this awful bacterial infection what rots the caps into slime eventually. You can see some dark spots on the mature fruits where this has started to happen.

As for cultivation notes: That is about 2/3 of a quart of grain in 3 quarts of coir verm... after fully colonized (but before matting) I cased with some left over pan casing I had lying around. This was about 1/4 inch of a mix of peat moss vermiculite and a touch of hydrated lime to ph at about 7-7.5. Then it sat for about a week without much FAE, then I put it in my pan fruiting chamber which is at about 78-81 F, 80-90 RH and lots of FAE. I misted pretty heavily once but it was to apply spinosad in a water suspension. As you can see from some stumps there - this bunch is bluing very intensely and rapidly like the others grown on coir.

I have something similar with a RW tub right now but no gnats. Stress fruited in 9 days before colonization and the fruits are all fucky.

Does spinosad work for fungus gnats? I have a lot of houseplants and I don't think they are affecting my mush cult(yet) but I hate them.
Mosquito dunks and the corn pellet stuff with Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis + sticky traps have done nothing.

It does slow the adults down some ... killing some I think, but the real impact is on the larva. So depending upon when you first apply you may need to apply again to kill the next round of larva to hatch. After 2-3 applications (a few days or so apart) you should be able to take them out:

That’s a great pinset.
I got a few pins like that and they ended up being like two inches tall.
Was there any overlay type stuff before casing? I’m gonna throw a verm heavy casing on next time and see what happens cuz that looks pretty good.
Are you running them same as pans or just in the same chamber? They do look pretty wet so maybe that’s part of keeping overlay down.

I had just misted them before the photo. To be honest throwing them in the pan fruiting chamber was a spur of the moment kind of thing.
