They're in a standard shoebox that gets passive FAE. It's just what happens regardless of what is done. My nats never pin. Been through tons of genetics. These in particular are from a generous member on here. Ive been at this for a year now and have never seen a single pin either on agar or in a tub. I don't get it.

Well dude I could send you EVEN more genetics if you want.. but I’d be leaning more towards your conditions being just off at this point 🫤

What do you suspect is wrong with conditions? Surface seems good. Tiny beads glistening. Lid is sitting loose on top. Temps 68F. Spawn between 1:2 for a few tubs and 1:3 for others.

Well as a straight hater of shoeboxes, I would suspect FAE but fuck if I honestly know man. Have you tried them in a mono?

Personally, if I were you, I’d take the box out to the garage and drill some holes in it right now. Just little 1/4” holes. Maybe someone else who grows nats in shoeboxes can chime in. I haven’t seen anyone doing that
Or put the lid on top more at an angle so more air can get in

Ive offset the lid in the past, didnt seem to make a difference. I asked about the shoebox here before. People in this thread said the shoebox and lid shouldnt be a problem. Idk. Feels like im spinning my wheels in the mud here doing the same thing over and over. Youre right though in that its only been a week and a half. May try the holes because at this point it cant hurt.

I fruit in shoeboxes, but I swear by the purple handled sterilite because they can easily adjust FAE. With Nats I run them with Lids flipped and the handles up. This gives more FAE than just the lid on and loose. I think you use a different type of shoebox though so you may want to flip lid and offset a bit from the start and see if it helps.

It really can’t. I started doing my monos with quarter inch filter less holes as well. I’m loving it so far

Nats are chill in shoeboxes. IMO there is still a lot of genetic diversity present within the species which could lead to some unlucky rolls of the dice. Still got my fingers crossed for ya. The tub you posted looks like many I’ve had before, I certainly don’t think it looks bad

Thank you all for the replies. They have the purple handle shoeboxes at my grocery store. I see them all the time and have examined them. The lids sit ontop exactly like the ones I have, if not a slight bit more snug. So it seems theyd give ever so slightly less fae?
Ill continue being patient and stagger the lids. They had a bit of condensation on them, moreso than my PE tubs. Maybe its their way of telling me they want to breath more.
Its not that I think the tubs look bad, its that every nat tub ive ever done has had the same look while sitting there in perpetuity without ever fruiting.

I feel like some species just hold a grudge against its cultivator as well. Vader personally has beef against me for no reason whatsoever. That variety refuses to fruit for me 😂 I just bought some new genetics for that one. Will see how it goes haha

So, what's the body load and nausea compared with say cubes? I usually feel like trash for first couple of hours on cubensis that doesn't happen when I'm on say any woodlovers or my country's natives.
I already have a few totes growing psilocybe natalensis as I am trying to find a good strain to fully transition from cubes to.

All my nats grow in closed shoeboxes. I even experimented with a tall shoebox with only 1in of sub in the bottom. Lid on the whole time and no issues.

No way to tell without knowing his entire process. The pic he posted looks fine to me.
I knock up 30+ plates with a nat print. Then transfer the 15 best germinations. Those plates get to sit until they pin and the pins go directly to grain. At harvest I start all over with the best specimen. So I’m not the best to diagnose what he has going on.
Aspect, at this point I would suggest you start with a known good culture to avoid further frustration. I only have glass plates, but if you mail me an empty petri, I’ll send you back a perfect plate, ready for grain. That eliminates a lot of variables.🤷
Good luck!
