A lot of people just want to grow a few mushrooms and don’t want to get so involved they have to learn to do sterile lab work. That’s the main reason for any type of syringe.
I’m also not a fan of pf tek for beginners because fruiting cakes in a Sgfc like most new people will end up doing is way harder than a shoebox, because it requires knowing what proper conditions look like and how to maintain that environment which is impossible when it’s your first or even fifth grow. Water tubs make it pretty easy but they’re not widely used.
But yeah this is getting off topic for the natalensis thread

If spores were inherently dirty then syringes would NEVER work and you’d see contamination constantly streaking prints to agar. This is all bullshit that has popped up recently.
Agar is better but (good) syringes are fine too. Sporeworks hasn’t been around for decades selling dirty syringes that fail more often than not.
I get what your saying aka, there are plenty of good cultivators who can do so, but given this advice is for the average joe learning I dont get how we have regressed to buying spores and shooting them in grain jars.
I agree with both of you. I’ve been one of the only ones to argue again and again how spores to grain has its place. However, now that liquid culture syringes are readily available I feel different about it. That’s a way better option for the AIO bags than spores!

NattyOrNice said: For what it's worth, we are probably going to get liquid culture, and do BRF/Verm AND put it on agar. Even though the LC might be clean, I see no point to gamble on it by putting it straight on grains when we will have Something growing on BRF while we work it on agar. Does that sound alright to everyone?
And yeah like I said, in a month we will do another round and buy a PC and make all our own substrate, agar, etc.
I think that is a good choice. However, I also think you should save money and not buy the pre-made PF Tek jars. You can make your own PF Tek jars without a PC.
Also, by far the best genetics I have came from people on this site for free and not from vendors. This is another good reason to learn agar. The best genetics are going to be free but going to be prints or swabs.

You know, we might just do that! (Make our own PF jars). I just messaged someone on here for some prints too, and yeah, we would love to save as much money as possible, thanks for the advice!

Sgfc is outdated info you know that, pf cakes in ziplocks is a simple easy option that requires very little understanding. I was under the impression this was a cultivation forum not a get mushrooms quick scheme, why include sterile techniques at all? Plenty of mushrooms can be grown with open air innoculations, I dont see that being handed out as advice.

Hello, can someone point me to the correct search words to use or a post which explains the current growing method for Nats.
Not looking for huge amounts...personal use for a loved one who needs huge amounts of cubes due to medications. Nats have a reputation of being gentle and double strength (we go slow, he is fine and mushrooms have given him back to us. He does not like the taste and they make him nauseous. Less would be best)
I have the spores growing on agar. Pretty clean and from a trusted vendor here(will never buy anywhere else!)
I prefer shoeboxes but I can try something new. I was reading this thread and searching but can't find what I am looking for.
So far, I have seen... Just like cubes. but also more FAE, or water tubs, has overlay problems(not even sure exactly what that means)...
Or a simple question...Does a regular shoebox work?
Thanks so much for any help!

Only difference between nats and cubes is nats like a little extra FAE. Shoeboxes work great.

Huge is relative. What amount are you looking for?

They don’t NEED more FAE than cubes. They’ll just result in more “spaghetti” like flushes I believe.. which has never bothered me. (Someone back me up here or point it out if I’m wrong please)
I’m not fucking around fanning and misting.. like ever. I’m just not doing it 🤣 I have also thought about making monotubs specifically for nats with larger FAE holes. Just a thought. Overlay also seems to be a problem of genetics. I haven’t had overlay with my regular nats or black cap nats

In quantity...I don't really know.. enough for personal use once a month or so. The problem is that in cubes he takes 8grams and it still is mild without much psychedelic effects. A shoebox or two would be fine

Maybe pans would be better for him.. I know of some people on medications as well that require extremely high doses and pans are what’s best for them
