Thanks, it’s so cool to see how the pinning density is mimicked on agar plates that are left for a while

I love how well nats seem to readjust and grow toward the light. More so than cubes, it seems like.
My shoeboxes have opaque lids, so some later flush nats were growing sideways, and as soon as I dub-tubbed it they all turned straight up.
IDK if that's what happened with that big guy, but it looks like it.

Hey, First time growing Natalensis. Inoculated with spores. I grow them in a small shoebox and in a 40qt monotub.
The ones in the shoebox (unmodified) got not enough FAE and look (because of that?) Spaghetti so I'm sure they are Natalensis.
The 40qt monotub has holes so I guess they get enough FAE. And with a deeper substrate. Until now there are only pins and no mature shrooms but the pins look totally different.. more than normal cubes.the biggest pin looks already heavier than the matured nats from the shoebox
Can they look so different?

I'm pretty sure I did not spawn my golden teacher jars
Or atleast I was sure haha 😅

They look folded, i feel like if allowed time to mature they'd be adnate, but I could be wrong

Natalensis have subdecurrent gills, they curve and run down the stipe or stem. Cubensis have adnate or adnexed gills that attach at the bottom of the cap or even curve up into it a little bit.

Subdecurrent gills run parallel to the cap for most of their length, then the edge suddenly bends down the stem just before it gets there.
check out dd's monster up above and you can see the gills go down the stipe a bit, it's supposed to be an indicator of nats vs cubes
the gills in eniqma's pic could just be bunched up because the cap isn't all the way open yet, hard to tell

I will let these open up all the way to determine if they’re nats or not.
