Just got my first flush! Right around 500g wet, I used 4qts of spawn and not a lot of coir tbh. Do nats reliably yield less? What is a good expected amount per jar? Skinny boys.

Im about to inoculate my first jars since getting new spores. After having gotten nothing but overlay for the better part of a year, I can only hope I get even a fraction of what youve gotten.

Maybe try more coir next time. The main nutrient they need is water, lots of it. 1:6 or 1:7 is a good ratio for nats. Who knows, you may get flush after flush and end up with a high yield, but I wouldn’t be happy with such a small amount from 4 qts.

Really, 1:7 coir ratio?
How many grams of coir go into your tubs and how many jars do you use?

For 1:7, I cook 2539g coir with 9129g water which makes 4 shoeboxes. 1 myco qt of spawn per shoebox.
For 1:7, I pseudocase with 1qt. Anything under 1:7, I don’t pseudocase.

i just put the genes from [redacted]* on wbs yesterday, think it's the same new stuff you're playing with because our plates here and here look really similar. hope we both finally get some fruits!
also have some spores from [redacted]* that should go on a plate tomorrow. it'll be a lot of fun to compare the two lines eventually
in other nat weirdness i've kept this baccy jar around for way too long and the myc keeps squeezing water out of the grain. still smells fine through the filter and the bottom of the lid is nearly covered in myc. no visible knotting or pins, just s q u e e z e

Awesome! Ill be using wbs too. Will make sure to update. Im only planning on inoculating 4 jars. Once I get a good clone to work with and taste the trip I may decide to grow more.

@Huskies I used a ratio like SPG was saying 1:5 spawn to sub with another part substrate pseudo-casing so really like 1:6. If your tub doesn't contaminate and you can keep it hydrated it will push out flush after flush. Two of my shoeboxes flushed 6-8 times and the other two went 5 flushes. One of my shoeboxes triched out after one flush. Between those five shoeboxes I had 4 1/2 mycoquarts of spawn and got over a pound dry. These things can produce.

How are you guys rehydrating for 6+ flushes? After 2-3 my sub is always kind of beat up and holding it together when draining excess water starts to get dicey.

If you have an extra tub or shoebox that fits inside your tub use the bottom of the empty tub to hold your sub in place while you drain.

Yes, this. Bottom watering is best. Another trick I love to do with shoeboxes is dump them upside down in a tub with a tiny bit of standing water and let the bottom and side myc have a chance to play.

No, if I don't add water on top my upper portion of sub is just bone dry and the Nats rip it apart when I harvest.

Oh gotcha. 👍 I use wave scissors to harvest and leave a small stump when I harvest. Fresh myc reclaims those stumps and pushes out more.

I've never been interested in harvesting like that, always twist and pull or just remove handfuls of fruit at once with masses of sub attached. It hardly bothers me or causes concern for the subsequent flushes and I'm rarely going past 3rd flush anyway. I'm generally going 1 and done or 2 max before I see the diminished returns and wasted space.
It's cool to get massive beefy fruit but that's all aesthetic and ultimately not worth the wait unless I'm not ready to spawn a new tub.

I agree with DERRAYLD. I let my first round of nats go 4 flushes, but now 2 max. Much faster to start a new tub than spend the time waiting for 3rd or 4th flushes now.
