Definately a good read, with several juicy plot twists.

You sure those sporeless mush are Nats? Their gill structure is different and that's generally a tell tale sign.

ItAintGotNoGasInIt said: Just read the last 50 pages of this thread over the past few days in anticipation of receiving some P. natalensis spores. I am excited like it was my first time again.
I've grown a bit of cubes but it has been a while and I also never keep notes of anything so there are a few details I am kind of hazy on I am wondering if someone could enlighten me.
I am used to 1 quart of spawn in a shoebox with a 1:1 ratio and a pseudo casing- how does growing at a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio work, will I straight up use 3-4 shoeboxes per quart or do I fill the shoebox more and maybe only use 2-3 shoeboxes/quart or something like that?
Also, is the biological efficiency of P. natalensis similar to cubes or does it yield significantly differently? I wonder if that extra substrate colonization, overlay, or just the species differences results in significantly different output.
Last time I grew cubes after getting my new big boy pressure cooker I kind of got over excited making a ton of spawn jars and ended up growing too many shrooms and I am hoping to avoid that, but also don't want to lowball my grow either.
Sending 'em this week mate!
I've been doing mainly shoes at 1:2 with .5 pseudo casing & the results have been great as long as surface conditions are good. BE seems to vary a bit, I had a mono yield 85g dry from 1.5kg wet recently. But in shoes they have been around the same as cubes generally (if that's what you're asking).
All my tubs harvest like a dream too btw, pop straight out with little to no coir. Hopefully same for you.
Be sure to post pics when you finally get them going

Are you suggesting they might be cubes? How should the gills look?

These have subdecurrent gills - they aren’t always as noticeable as they are in your culture.

You know the difference between them and the large Nats?
High temperature and low fae.

one argument being that the natalensis are already potent but the snake pheno bends them towards being more pin like

I haven't ran Nats in awhile. My last batch would bruise blue at maturity.

Awesome! Appreciate the info, I'll try to treat 'em right. Been doing some practice agar work this week to get my head back in the game and make sure I'm not too rusty.

Went to coir 9/9, 1:3 with 1qt pseudo. Spawn was from last March that slept in fridge, nothing special just a t1 plate. They grew large outside but these look like shorties, some veils are breaking already. Nice clusters though. Usually get 5 or 6 flushes compared to cubes. Have another 4 quarts, might try a mono.

Veuls breaking are irrelevant for Nats, they'll grow substantially afterward.
