Sorry if this has been addressed already. Last year I bought a spore syringe of “Psilocybe natalensis : Natal Super Strain”. I plated it several times and transferred a many but still wasn’t happy with the culture (seemed to eventually get contam when I was letting it fill the plate). I’m considering giving it yet another go, but first wanted to get the consensus as to whether this is truly P natalensis. I thought I read that some vendors are actually selling a P cubensis and calling it “natal super strain”. Thoughts?

Questions about overlay:
I'm trying to plan the next steps for my nat agar. I have some now-overgrown spore plates and ten T1's.
I understand overlay is a genetic lottery, and appearance on agar does not predict overlay. From a spore print, what are the odds of a colony bearing the "overlay gene"?
Is overlay seen on brf pucks? How about top-fruiting an 8 oz container with wbs or oat?

Post some pictures of the mycelium, there’s a decent chance we’ll be able to tell if it’s natal.
As for the overlay, I’ve run probably 10 cultures from spore and I’m almost positive I had overlay on all of them. But then other guys seem to rarely get it.
I should note that I use cube amounts of spawn most tubs also which could cause it. These seem to have the potential to be insanely efficient based on some claims we’ve seen. I think somebody said they ended up with like 4oz per quart or something like that.

Heres another mystery tub. Spawned 8-6. Exactly a month ago from today. 1:3 ratio with 1 quart top layer. Not sure if you can tell from pics but the block has shrunk. The edges look bad because it was too wet at one point and I dabbed with a paper towel. I guess this damaged the little threads of myc and made it unable to hold tiny beads of water in those areas. The middle has remained the same. No.overlay but regardless it wont fruit.
