Thanks to a lot of y’all on this thread I successfully harvested a couple bins of Nats :freewilly:

I’ve read all about how they are supposed to be 2-3 times more potent than your “traditional cube”, so I decided to take my standard 1.5g potency test dose. I was highly underwhelmed and a bit disappointed. It had been almost a month since my last dose so I figured I’d be sitting pretty seeing as I always have some decent effects on this dose with any of the ape or pe crosses I’ve worked with.

Do I just have a lower potency culture? Or was I expecting too much by comparing it to ape?

The potency really varies it seems.
Some of us have crazy potent Nats and other people say they underwhelmed like you.

I can comfortably take 4g of mak and watch TV but 4g of Nats and I am in bed with the blanket over my head in the fetal position.

:whathesaid:

A friend and I are running grows from the same line. Growth was outstanding for both of us, but independent testing has been disappointing even compared to regular cubes. I suspect that there is still a lot of variability in Nats that will resolve itself as it becomes more domesticated. All we need to do is propagate the good ones and cull the disappointments.

2-3x is a lot.

Mine are always strong but not like that. They’re like PE level but with a different vibe.

yeah i thought the main draw was the different effects, not so much they were just hyper strong.

I left a rather bacterial jar with the lid off in the garden, meaning to sling it in the compost... but got distracted playing with the dog and forgot all about it.

:psychsplit:

They were kinda drying out when I noticed them, so I dug them out with a spoon and had 85g that made a rather spore infested tea.

Depends really, I like them because they're potent and their effects are different.

First flush Nats. 1qt spawn to 3.5 qts cv.  I got them to stand nice and tall with a dub tub set up off center with lots of fae

I harvested like 30 something grams dry outta the first flush so just for shits and giggles I dunked the cake for 8 ish hours and put the lid on. I forgot about them and checked back a few days later to this bowl of noodles

Awesome!  Glad your first flush turned out looking sorta normal.  Your second flush looks the same as all my flushes.  Have you sampled them yet?  I just powdered mine -- easier to store than a bunch of noodles in a jar.

Oh that’s smart! Yeah I’ll probably powder the noodles for microdose capsules. I took a light dose, but wasn’t that impressed. Gonna dive deeper to see what all the hype is about

I completely agree. I love nats for the clarity and uplifting qualities of the experience. They definitely aren't crazy strong but I take 2-6 grams once a week and always have a good time.

I think it’s just overlay that’s too dry. IME nats spit out tons of metabolites when there’s bacteria.

Yea I misted it. I got the lid staggered for good FAE. This is like my 30th nat tub though. Spawned on 7-23. Still no pins or anything I dont get it. Past tubs have went 2 months without pinning

I have some jfxnat I recently attempted with failure. It looked decent if not slightly translucent on pda.

I should have definitely cleaned the top one up more I think; the bottom one looks like enmeshed bacteria to me. Jars were sus unfortunately. I have an f2 nat clone from a buddy that I’m gonna start this winter. Green nip pheno apparently, but I don’t know if this is common.

Did they pin eventually?  I have great looking whispy growth everywhere with no pinning after 3 weeks

Shoeboxes in a Martha and the lids cracked. 90% humidity or more and 75f

Nope. But as a disclaimer no other tubs ive done pin either. No idea what the issue is and nobody has come up with any helpful answers or insights for.me either. Tubs and surface conditions look good. Its summer here temps in the house have been at 72 F.

This tub was at 2 months when I took the pic. It never did anything

Should I add a casing if nothing is happening after 3 weeks?

I'm looking to go beyond cubensis. My many tries with pans yielded endless molds. I'm giving nats a try since grow conditions are so similar to cubes.

I've looked and dozens of nats on agar, yet I don't have the confidence to know what I'm seeing. I'm asking for community education to get me clean grows. This is the first step. Here is one of 6 plates. I swabbed the print, then streaked 3 plates to spread out the colonies.

Photos through deli cups are difficult. My camera is focusing on the lid, not the agar. If I need to get better pics I can open them in front of my FFU. Please let me know if this would be helpful. Pics of the other 5 plates are even worse.

Are those rising columns towers of mold, or nats wanting to pin? Do you see any choice sites to transfer?

Nat mycelium tends to to funky stuff, so I wouldn't be too worried about what you got there.
Personally I would choose to transfer the even growth from 6-7 o'clock.
