Very interesting development, but nothing new for the initiated.

1 of 7 jars of moopers genetics revealed multiple contamination points (green spores of death) following a shake at about 30-40% colonization (always seem to have this problem post shake, regardless of species/strain, which is likely due to leaky seals on plastic lids). Planned to toss, but felt curious and let them go to war to see what happens.

after +1 week, Nat mycelium has completely overpowered contaminants; not a single green spore is observable. Noticeable metabolite fluid build up on the bottom of the contaminated jar (none present in the clean ones), so will likely run this guy in it's own outdoor set-up just to be safe in the event rogue spores are still present but mycelium looks happy and healthy.

Extremely impressed that even recent generations are exhibiting antimicrobial effects against contams that have wiped out entire batches of even the most resilient cubes in the past.

Absolutely they can! I had 2 jars contam, I kept them just to see what happens. The Nats won, but at the end they started to fruit in vitro.

Here's a jar showing the green being overtaken

Both jars ended up fruiting, but at least the contams didn't take over.

My macro mini mono kicked off and gave me some adorable fruits. Took like a week and a half from spawn and poo that fell on the floor.

I left some jars sit for a couple month, and I got some stones.

Anyone here ever had that happen? Thinking about trying to isolate this.

Can I please get someone else to agree with me that nat myc doesn’t somehow “beat” trich. If anything, it chooses not to fight it in the first place, just grows over and around it. Otherwise there would be metabolites and a “battlefront” where the two meet. It’s as if nat myc isn’t as concerned with the real estate it can’t have, unlike cubes.

My lines have a lot of overlay, but from what I’ve seen natalensis is more resistant, but also I think there’s just so much mycelium for the molds to eat that it spreads much slower. Possibly the huge puffs of myc keep the mold spores contained also. I’ve had plenty of tubs with moldy spots and metabolites all over, they just tend to stay put instead of wrecking the whole tub like with cubes.

That's Penicillium, not Trich 😬

Nats def don't ignore Trich. In my experience they do the usual: metabolites, stress fruiting and they eventually succumb like any other myc. Maybe slower but that's it.

Very cute! I'm trying to find tubs that are half the length of a 6qt shoebox but twice as tall for my mini grows. So far I've been looking at cereal containers.

I harvested the overlay and now I have 3 grams of dried natalensis overlay. Shall I chow down?
