YoshiTrainer said: @ Bakedbeings and Tryptkeeper, it is like making a giant batch of lemon tea with mush added.
I started with about 1 gallon of water and around 1/8C citric acid. I brought it up to a simmer and split the liquid in 1/2 with an extra pot on the back burner staying warm. The main pot, I dumped the crushed Natalensis in (about 300g dry). I stirred to cover the mush with water. You want enough water for the mush to be loose when you stir, no oatmeal. On the other hand, too much water leads to longer reduction times later. Allow to gently simmer for 20min, stirring occasionally. Then strain and squeeze all the liquid you can from the mushroom mush. Return the mush to the pan and add more hot acidulated water from the pan on the back burner and repeat. I'm going to let the jars cool and hopefully have sediment drop out of solution. Then a final filter using a funnel stuffed with Polyfil or a cotton ball. Then reduce down to the volume I need. In the case of the Nats, I need 1 cup. At that point freeze into ice cubes, make gummies, honey, etc.
Here is a proper write up with pics (not mine)
https://mycotopia.net/topic/103228-cooking-up-a-batch-of-gollys-stealthier-honey/#entry1359541
I also made a batch of Pan cyan/Fp+ and Caerulescens/pseudoA/subtrop/tamp with a pinch of papuana. They all still need a final filter and reduction. With these, almost all my dried mush are gone, just in time for a new season!
Psilo mix in 1/2 gallon
Pans and Fp+ in quart

The filtering will clean it up but the reduction will bring back the funk. Hopefully they'll be potent and artificial flavoring plus sour will make them palatable.

It is what happens when you grow a bunch of different mush, as you know! The mixes should be interesting though, plus I could mix gummies from the different batches! Just eat some Zapotecorum chocolates with them and it is 2022 in review.

I added the Fp+ to lighten up the pans. The pan chocolates are brutal!

Chug, chug chug!!! If you are ever in the neighborhood, I have a glass for you!
Sorry for the diversion, I'll post a picture of the Natal gummies when done.

Whats the shelf life on something like that? I'm thinking of doing that with a cpl #'s of random cubes

IIRC frozen indefinitely and liquid a few weeks in the fridge before potency drops. Not sure about gummies

alaskappalachian said: I wouldn't officially make that claim. I just got tired of annotating each pertinent post with "proposed/suspected" I got these genetics from Adrenognome after seeing a project of his that intrigued me and having worked a bit with different phenos of both. Others have produced compelling crosses ostensibly, but no one is sending these for sequencing yet. I will be sending playa in at my earliest convenience for sequencing, however, as I suspect (and I'm not alone) that it will follow a path of discovery similar to natalensis.
Dug this up from a year ago because I haven’t been around and am just now seeing that you were able to try those spores. I’m glad you liked them. I spawned a shoebox with both playa uvita and natalensis to see if they’d get along. I thought I saw people do that with cubes to get crosses, and if they were two different species then both would grow and fruit distinctly different mushrooms in the same space. That is what had me thinking a cross had taken place, otherwise the nats just outgrew the cubes and won the shoebox real estate. The spawn was 50/50 nats/playa, to a 1:1 of coir. Both grew vigorously on oats but we all know nat myc is a little aggressive so it’s possible it wasn’t very nice to the cube. So yeah just wanted to clear up any confusion.
I wish I had the picture still. They were snakey with bumpy stipes like playa with the notoriously dainty nat cap.
So glad to be back and see how you guys are doing

BlueAndOrange said: Well, obviously doing this in 5 monotubs with 10 quarts of spawn would be better.
In my shoebox nat grows, I’m using 1qt spawn per box and across the multiple flushes getting 1-2oz dried per quart and using 1.5qt substrate. I average 1.5oz dried or about 1 pound wet per quart.
So by the time these are done with the multiple flushes I’d expect another 22 pounds of fresh wet mushrooms and a total yield of about 4 pounds dried.
I wanted to build a nice stockpile before branching off on new techniques to better ride out the failures. But since I’m there, I’ll definitely go with monotubs for the next round. I have 48 more quart jars about 65% colonized. I’ll put a bunch in the fridge and start with a single mono to learn to dial it in before making a bunch.
I’ll take any tips on mono construction (ez dial?) and spawn to sub ratios for the nats.
Things I’d like to move toward as I get better at this:
Set and forget tubs (which I can do with the shoeboxes) One and done flushes with good yield (which I suspect I’ll need to start developing clones to achieve).
Having switched to large monos from shoeboxes a couple of months ago here is my advice:
Pasty's EZ dial is where its at. If you are like me and want the holes evenly placed make a paper template that you can tape on the side of your monos, measure out the holes and then make a small hole in the paper. Keep the template and you can use it when you scale up on monos.
1:4 sub ratio is good if you have clean spawn.
To increase your learning speed don't only do one mono, do at least three.

On a side note, I mixed some Natalensis and Tat sslc and give it a long vigorous stir to agitate it aggressively and attempt to distribute the 2 varieties evenly. I proceeded to inoculate a master jar, let's see if this time is more successful than just mixing grain spawn.

What is sslc? This is a new term to me. Is it like a slurry? Semi-solid? Any recipes?
