Lmao that side myc is awesome.
How old is the tub? Looks like some nice pins showing up.

4 weeks since spawn. I started to pick off the myc on the bottom right corner a few days ago, then immediately changed my mind and let it go as is. Some of what looks like pins are myc discharge droplets.

You got a couple thick ones in there. Something was going on in the right half of that tub that they liked.
So weird they seem to be all curly and sideways half the time and then totally normal like Psilos or grims clone from way back the other half.
I’ve only had a few that grew vertically but they had a different consistency than the rest. All the ones that grow sideways and loopy are always really soft. And shred themselves a lot.

After the results of my experience growing these bad boys I will likely never grow them again. They are a bitch to clean and 2 shoeboxes filled up my dehydrator only to have it come out to like 8 grams. Pretty disheartening to drop like 15 fruits into a container and the screen on the scale not change.
I have 2 jars left that I could spawn but at this point I feel like dumping them. I got a couple slants in case I change my mind. Took swabs as well because these tiny caps are hard to print.
Good strain if you just want to give it a shot or are an enthusiast.
Glad I grew it through and the print was given to me by a very generous person so not much to complain about in the end. Probably grind them up and put it into some chocolates or something.

Have you eaten them yet? That seems to convert most people lol.
I have had some that dry out really light and spongy but the overall weight wasn’t as bad as you described.
If you have the space you should try running the spawn different ways and see what happens.
I just had some spawn left in a jar pin all over so cased grain might be good.

They are awesome, you get since that weigh descent. Definitely worth it, my wife won't let me quit growing these.

They're a mushroom for the persistent that's for sure. I've told myself I'm done a few times but something keeps pulling me back in.
I have pins on a shallow 1qt shoebox at 16 days now. My mono is still chugging along at 15 days. Not a blob disaster yet.

lol that pic reminds me, one of my shoeboxes with crazy overlay that I flipped has almost solid mold on the bottom (which used to be the top) but the myc is so thick it’s formed a seal on the sides and I guess the spores can’t get past cuz the exposed top of the sub is fine and pinning.
I’m gonna toss the whole thing though cuz this morning while I was looking at it from underneath I tilted it and some water ran across and there’s so many spores it was dark green liquid. No way am I opening that shit up.
I can definitely see why these never got popular. I just like puzzles in general and now I’ve sunk enough time and effort into them there’s no way I’ll quit until I beat them. Or at least get a couple decent grows.
Although it wouldn’t be nearly as appealing if every person I give them too wasn’t raving about them.

I've always said I put these at about the same potency as APE but I recently got some feedback from some friends that I gave APE and Natal to and they like the APE a little better. Could be visual though APE has great bag appeal.

lol same here.
I did my first ape and natalensis grows at the same time. The guys I gave them to knew ape was supposed to be strong but I told them about natalensis and they tried that first and were blown away. Then later tried ape and said it’s real close but ape might’ve been slightly stronger. But like you said bag appeal. The guys girlfriend was naming each ape fruit in the bag.

Apologies for going off topic but this is kind of cool. I thought I was done growing APE since I grew a couple pounds but saved a 1/2 pint master (yes 1/2 pint) in the fridge just in case I wanted to go give it another run. After four months it was starting to bruise so I did a g2g and this is where I'm at now.
Took me a year to grow APE successfully so looking back now I'm glad I saved it.
If I can get a good clone off this last 2 tubs of natal ill keep at it.

1/2 pint to 14 quarts?? You’re getting some serious mileage from that master.
How long ago did you g2g?

I think I expanded the 1/2 pint to 5qts on 7/22 then expanded the best one to another 10 but didn't date it.

Well I guess you’re gonna be in the ape game for a minute lol.
Ok so my clones spawned on 8-3 and 8-6 have both pinned. Just not on top. I’m gonna flip them both and the manure one is small so it’ll work in the shoebox but the half spawn one is gonna need the hc. The manure one had higher spawn ratio and pinned much faster with more developed pins.

The half spawn has a huge pinset but they’re still mostly primordia.
Then there’s this cluster on the 9 week old sweater box.

Who all is running clones only? Just to pick your brain: small or large transfers? Im starting to have an idea about narrowing genetics with these guys being non-helpful, causing overlay and weird growth. Maybe they need diverse genetics to fruit properly?

My first few were lc made from a dime size wedge off the spore plate. They had overlay more than an inch deep on them.
Then I took transfers and made plates from two different types of myc, fluffy and more rhizo. They also overlayed pretty bad.
I cloned a plate pin and made a jar of spawn from the myc that grew off it with no transfers, split it into two tubs which are both just pinning. So far they’re much much better than any of the earlier grows.
Half a quart of spawn where I normally use a full one is looking the most promising right now. Zero overlay but still has myc climbing the walls. It’s also the first time I’ve seen actual knots and more than a handful of pins at a time. This is the same spawn jar split in half, one with the normal amount of sub and one with half the amount so the ratio is the same as always. The one with more sub had no crazy puffball overlay. I’ve already picked a ton of myc off the right one in this pic too.

Based on what’s happened so far I’m focusing on way less spawn and restricted air for my next ones. I’ve really only gotten pins in areas covered in thick myc and pressed against the walls or bottom, and the myc seems to fuzz up more severely with a lot of air. Could be nothing but well see. The paper on the original specimens said they were found at a pretty high elevation also.
Also I recently had a bunch of pins pop up on some grain I left in the jar for g2g if the clone went well. Another air restricted area.

Hey guys. I'm commenting for easy access to this sub cuz I have a print coming my way (thx jbgtaa). Although that might take a few months... I have mail coming from US that are 2 months over due... Anyway... I do love a challenge and can't wait to give them a try. I was thinking about casing this one with top soil from the garden. Don't ask me why. But my intuition rarely fails me. If any of you have some extra spawn you could try this before I get a chance.
