Grim try half spawn and see what happens.
It seems like they like to pin off the thick rubber myc mats too. I haven’t had pins anywhere that didn’t overlay really bad and then turn into rubber.
My half spawn tub is the first time I’ve seen knots and there’s zero fluff balls. The manure version of the same clone is in between right now, it’s like half normal myc and knots and half huge swollen rhizo poofs.

Lots of the best ones smell raunchy. I've got one that smells like strait rotting garbage while drying. It is one of the strongest and most fantastic ones though.

Still no pins. I’ve picked a decent amount of myc off the manure one, the half spawn coir tub hasn’t had any overlay so far.

I’m starting to see some primordia on the side though.
The surface just will not hold water for the last week. Idk what’s changed, maybe drying out now that it’s been a while.

It really is I love the veil.
So when I spawned my clone on 8/6 I left some spawn for g2g and to put on a plate if it’s good. Yesterday I shook it up and did g2g without looking at it. Just now I checked out what’s left and found pins all over.

Maybe just grain in a tub is the way to go. There’s a couple more on the other side too.

Interesting a.k.a. Maybe cased grain. I know c10 cranks out some tamps that way. If I had any spawn left I'd try it.

Here's the best looking of the shoeboxes I have fruiting currently:

Grim, it's crazy how different your melmac look than mine, or anyone else's really. Huge genetic variation. I partly blame myself for the prevalence of non-PE melmac. I gave away a ton of swabs, but in my naivety, most of them came from fruits with wide open caps because they were easier to swab

Ill try straight grain with the jar I just made unless my shoeboxes turn out amazing before it’s finished.
I got my Melmak from a Facebook vendor recommended to me by a tc. My first two runs produced these types, which a few other people had identical ones of also.

But then off the same plate I got huge PE ones by cloning a plate pin. It really does have an incredible range of phenos in it.

Yeah this one was from you. TBH though the other 2 grows I tried from someone else turned out very similar fruits.

Who sells bulk-ish coir thats consistent and reasonably priced? Just ran out of my pre covid stash and wanna get a good amount of solid coir to last me a good couple of months, gonna be doing a lot of very informal natalensis experiments. Gonna try em in a jcm pan set up once I've got some pan cultures going and just make two and see if maybe that helps with consistency?

I'd like to know that as well. Pet stores around me are getting slim. I could use 20-30 bricks.

I always forget to bookmark the links when this comes up. Some people have good sources.
I just buy the 5kg bricks of hydro crunch for 14 bucks or whatever it is.

I'm kinda set in my ways for 650g bricks, they fit in my slow cooker perfectly. I just ordered (6) 3 packs for store pick up at petco for $7.69 a piece.

Well I want to be mad that it’s side pins but even this is a big improvement. Plus idk why but I can’t maintain surface conditions on this one. I even put a sheet of plastic over it then snapped the lid on to seal it off and it’s still going dry. Probably gonna end up busting out the hc for this one.

Then there’s this thing. All these myc lumps in the middle are the consistency of mushroom flesh. It’s a new one for me.

It just doesn't make sense for a fungi to put so much energy into making that mess that doesn't reproduce. Weird.

Thank you, it is a clone. I just harvested a couple shoeboxes of it this morning. Here's some pics:
