Is there any consensus on potency in regards to the skinny small cap pheno vs the cube looking pheno?

Early on people were saying the skinny green snakes were more potent, but several people have cube looking ones that are very potent too. I don't think it matters much. The genetics on these are very diverse.

I personally think it's environmental and not genetic. My most recent tubs have all been made the same as the last but a heat wave has caused them to turn into a mass of snakes rather than large, straight cube looking mush.

You definitely know better than me. I was mainly trying to say that I didn't think the phenotype had anything to do with potency.

I was more just commenting, not saying either of us are correct. I've seen such diversity from my culture, let alone spore.

same observation here. environmental factors bring about very different looking types ..

Oh, these are the snakes? Right on! So I'd want to hold off on harvesting until they get their well-known green tinge?

I would have to agree. This is the same culture as another mono that I've got going, but is performing quite differently here. Similarly, I'd have to say that this mono is in a slightly warmer area than the other one; but perhaps only 2-3°F warmer, so not much.
But if I'm not mistaken, that's what separates the genotype from the phenotype. Environment will determine the physical expression (i.e. phenotype), with the potential for various characteristics being dependent upon the organisms alleles (i.e. genotype).

I am going to cross post this report here since.. well it was a cross trip!
The word magic is perhaps more often or less mindfully thrown around than it should. This a rare exception for Odissey, for he was about to embark on an odyssey born from the perfect marriage between two magical beings. At the risk of losing credibility, this was one of the most magical trips of my life. I took 2-2.2g of semperviva/natalensis 50/50. I have been feeling the call to dip my toes in the psychedelic world more often than I usually do or am comfortable admitting. Having tried a 10g fresh ape the week before, I was afraid the magic would eventually be lost or the hammer would finally strike down. But the opportunity was perfect, so I decided to take the risk.
The beginning of this journey was akin to an atonement. Closing my eyes transported me into a room all too familiar, for this is the room I go to when I vaporize DMT crystal. The feeling is the same, the visuals are the same, and it is like I am suspended in this transitory state. Not particularly exciting or interesting, I began to wonder whether the magic had really faded away I usually have 2 come-ups, the second being much more significant, projecting me into the world of wizardry and sci-fi that I associate with the mushroom experience. Sometimes this second wave takes a while to come, but if I vaporize some cannabis, it usually follows right behind the first thc rush. So I did Took 2 small kief hits. Certainly not enough to get a discernible weed high, but the second mushroom wave swiftly rushed in and no words will ever make justice to that moment ust a few minutes ago I was wondering where the magic was, now I was flying through a pinkish outer space where fluffy clouds were pouring down rainbows like waterfalls Like an assistant who just tasted a glimpse of what lies beyond the horizon, the excitement electrified my body, and so I and the captain sailed through a canal with pillars of golden mushrooms shining with the blue and pinkish colors that painted the water The detail, beauty, and vividness of the visuals were like having the most brilliant painter conjuring his masterpieces out of thin air, while the art pieces gained a life of their own with infinite depth if you looked for it Now I felt like I was about to embark on a journey that would inspire hundreds of ineffable tales. The boat gave way to a spaceship as things started accelerating at a dazzling rate On a side note, the captain had such witty humor. I can't remember the last time I had this much fun (since last semps trip ofc ). When we were flying at an astonishing but steady speed, I remembered someone responding to my last report wondering what would happen if I hit changa during the peak. So I did Expecting an experience too jaw-dropping to be able to report, I was a tad disappointed. I got a weird vibe from it, the visuals became edgy and the feeling was off Fortunately, this quickly subdued and the captain gained control again. He then told me: "now let's see what tripping is all about" while blinking his eye and flickering the tip of his tongue We passed by all kinds of scenarios: jungles, deserts, alien planets, you name it. For someone afraid of sparkless travels, this was one of the most magical sessions I have ever had
Something piked my interest: the mushroom would sometimes take the face and the personality of some of my past adventures' partners and then depart for fresh quests in the holy kingdom
So what can you expect when you mix two beings so incredibly uplifting? Well, mutant oozing good vibes and rainbows from every orifice of course! This being was constantly looking at me with a smirky grin from ear to ear and leading the way into the next epic quest
With an overflowing fountain of goosebump-inducing landscapes, realities, and good vibes, how can it be that I forget most of it? I used to feel disappointed that knee-dropping insights and visions that left me crying and laughing with gratitude slipped away just as fast as the rush of mysteries flooded my mind. I am no longer attached to this feeling. Why? Forgetting all about it is what makes it even more mysterious and magical. Feeling a wave of alternate realities sweeping through my body may be something I still remember now, but the euphoria I felt at that moment will slowly fade away and I accept it. I have the rest of my life to visit this place
Ranking time! Vote now! Which is the best psychedelic of all time? Some people would say this is a pointless endeavor
Well, we can have some fun, right? So... Drumroll... Is sempernats the best psychedelic ever? Is this a stash so precious future psychonauts will gag at the thought we old barbarians used to consume inferior, pathetic excuses for fruit bodies? Sorry. You cannot top an already perfect experience. Semperviva is already (by all metrics) the best mushroom or psychedelic I ever had. So are sempernats worse? No! I would say they are both perfect in their own way What is the difference? I would say a pure Semperviva trip is like god came to you, holding your hand and gently taking you for a ride through the sacred realms This felt like I had a bit more wiggling room. There was this moment when I looked at my hands, closed my eyes, and then used the hands in the shroom world to grab a rope and catapult myself into... hmmm.. into where really? I apologize, words are falling short again! Point is, I felt like I could navigate more myself. However, this could also because my pure semperviva trips were higher doses and I could barely keep up with what was happening. Another great tool for someone looking for a change and this experience made me put nats on agar again! Next stop: semperpans!

Got a print through a trade, put it on agar in September.

Went to grain end of October.

1:1.5 spawn to sub middle of November. Some funky metabolites, and what looks like trich, at 26 days. Just starting to pin.

And today about one week week later.

They don't seem to mind the trich if that is what I'm seeing on the bottom right side of the tub. Happy to have some beginners luck after reading through this thread. Going to munch down 30-40gm fresh Thursday night.
What exactly am I looking for in a cluster to clone? Do I take tissue from the bottom of a mass of 3 or more?

For cloning, I look for one that are in a large cluster, ones that look cool, ones that show up first, and lastly ones that grow in contaminated conditions. I take 3 samples of each and watch the growth on the plate. See which grows the best on the plate, and toss the other 2. I grow each clone out to test for potency and save my favorites. I also make a master slant from the original plate I send to grain to go back to if everything sucks. That might be late information. In all seriousness though what/how you clone is up to you.

My seal failed on my lid, and I got my first green jar. I was tempted to let it grow further since nats allegedly don’t care, but this one hit the trash today. I got 44 good ones out of 45.
Great shade of green.
