Is that a thing? I got a print last year in MP. I should look back to the generous member and investigate.

apparently it is a thing but I dunno, I don't keep up on the news very well. There was mention of it in the earlier parts of this thread, but I am not sure if more sequencing etc was done since then and the controversy put to bed as a result? But the myc is crazy puffball and rhizo mix, so the real Nat looks likely hopefully, doesn't look like your average cube myc what I have

That whole issue was mostly natalensis and a wild cube from the natal area being mixed up, from what I recall.

I think also there was ā€œnatal super strengthā€ prints going around and some were cube and some natalensis. Makes sense though seeing as they grow in the same area and look nearly identical.

Congratulations! What spawn to substrate ratio do you guys have found works best? or it's depended on the nutrients/ pheno ?

I went 1/4.5 spawn to coir. From everything I have read anything from 1/3 to 1/5 works. Pretty much just like cubes.

1:1 works

Just checking back in with a quick synopsis of todays maiden nat trip. I took an estimated dry equivalent of 2.5g as tea from fresh made with citric acid. The GF took about 2.5g equivalent in the end. She took 1.5g at first, and when I was seeing creatures manifesting in the trees about 30 minutes in, she was not feeling it so she took an extra 1g equivalent.

As for the nat experience overall. I’ll say that the body discomfort I feel with cubes was greatly diminished, it was still there. We both had nausea (hers was worse, but she also had a bigger breakfast) and I had my typical discomfort in my chest during the come up.

About an hour in, she broke open in deep loud sobbing. I gave her a little space, but as she was also feeling nauseated and sitting on the cold tile floor of the bathroom while sobbing, I helped her to the bed and laid with her.

She has a history of family abuse from her parents, and though she’s done a lot of work on this, her dad passed in early summer, and her mom about a month ago. She had a complicated relationship with them and a lot of unresolved issues.

The nats unlocked some deep sadness and rage. Stuff she didn’t even realize was in her still. She leaned into it and went with it, both sobbing and yelling. This was not the kinder gentler mushroom trip I was expecting with nats, and this sort of swamped my experience in the moment.

After it was over, she said that even though she let our all that rage and had a good cry, that the process was as gentle as she could imagine, and she was grateful for the experience. Her mood was light and playful after the peak had passed. She described the experience as incredibly positive, and she’ll be looking to more tripping together as we move forward.

All said, I’m not yet sure what I think about the nats. I didn’t get the euphoria I’ve read about, though she did. I didn’t get the mdma-like experience of being flooded with love and connectedness. I didn’t get the feeling of oneness with everything I got from cube trips.

Despite all this it was an incredibly healing day, the experience definitely brought us closer together, and I think my next trip will be dried nats and a higher dose.

The bulk of the experience had passed for me in only 2 hours. I think I need to eat them dried and take a higher dose to get more of the experiences I’m looking for and some longer duration.

A last bit of context, this is a relatively new relationship, the chemistry and compatibility have been off the chart, we’re middle aged and both doing a lot of healing and growth work. Sharing this experience only made me more optimistic about our long term viability as a couple.

Before you (or others) go making those decisions, consider this:

It’s not strange at all for your trip to’ve responded the way it did to your GF’s situation.  It’s happened to me, it’s happened to & with others in my presence, it’s been reported to me by trustworthy sources:  somebody gets hurt, someone needs help, a crisis / unexpected event occurs, suddenly, everyone’s focus, everyone’s clear-headed and responsive (yes, there are exceptions).  Large groups, public outings, private parties, couples.  There seem to be no bad effects of it beyond being sad you missed the trip.

I would assume it says ANYTHING about how much you need.  Your original plan is still good.  Give yourself another chance.

nats do great in mini containers in dubtubs.
and dont be afraid to go 1:3 or 1:4 on small amounts
of healthy natalensis spawn. Ive been playing with
this for a long time, and healthy natalensis cultures
will invade other substrates and act in general really active
and crazy inside a dubtub.

they'll go drop spores on your cubes lol

Finally made it through the entire thread!

THANKS, EVERYONE!!!  One of the best threads I’ve read anywhere, about anything.

I got in here because I finally saw enough glancing mentions of ā€œnatalensisā€ to make me want to find out what that meant, and finding out’s been not far from a ā€˜moment of clarity’ for me.

I was good, read (almost) the whole thing before piping up, but boy, I have some questions!  So many, I don’t remember what they all are, but I’m about to dive back in:  I’ll try not to re-ask anything!

General comments:  sounds like the holy grail to me.  I am in AWE of the mycelium of this stuff, and I have never seen such beautiful agar dishes, ever - and I find grown-out plates endlessly fascinating anyway.  I want a mycelium garden:  the lawn, the shrubbery, the show-stoppers, eye-catchers, the unique.  I want ALL that - the exact same way I wanted the BIG chemistry set when I was a kid.  Shrooms, too, duh, but looks like it’s almost all medicine to me (has no-one experimented with using the ā€˜garden’ myc to inoculate fresh medium?  Did I miss it?  Am I missing a stair?), so I’m not inclined to be picky about EXACTLY what form it takes (yet).

It has been a serious education watching everyone push into the unknown w/ Nat;  Nat-specific, to be sure, but the display of general expertise in all kinds myc-cultivation y’all have brought in, is something I’ll be digesting for a while.  Getting to be a fly on the wall while the big kids figure THIS out has been deeply satisfying (is that a weird thing to say?).  I feel I just had a residential ten-day intensive course in ā€œadvanced intermediateā€ shroom-growing, w/ more confidence in my own understanding now.  I’m in awe of all *y’all*, too.

I’m ā€˜fraid y’all’re stuck w/ me for a while.  Thanks again for all the plate porn, and all the boxes to watch!

Mine are taking forever to colonize and finally after months in the casing and coir chamber, I was able to move them into fruiting conditions this weekend. I'm nervous about what they'll do after all the time I've waited to even get them ready for fruiting

That's quite a long time, I hope it pulls through. Nowadays it's suggested to go straight to fruiting conditions. Nats especially love a little more FAE. Any pics? :mushroom2:
