Idk but these do a lot of stuff normal cubes don’t.
One of the more suspicious ones imo is this.

Never have I seen anything punch through the liner, and the myc that went out is so thick. Woodlover myc was the first thing I thought when I saw this but who knows.

Yeah it forms more like root system mycelium than the fragile stuff that cubes form.

Not sure about that but to aka: the gills, in my opinion, would be described as sinuate.

Those are some thick n meaties!
I cloned a fruit like one of those and spawned it about 10 days ago. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

What do you guys think about this one?

It looks great as far as I’m concerned but I’m wondering if maybe it’s reacting to something. Like maybe the coir was too dry or wet and stunted the myc. It’s got a ton of knots I can see on the sides and little patches on top so I’m hoping it gets an actual pinset.
I forgot to check the spawn date but I think it’s coming up on two weeks.
Just checked it was spawned on the third so today is day 14.

Wish I could forecast what that one is gonna do AKA.
The Natal/Melmac tub pins look identical to my Melmac tub so it's not looking good that we'll have a Natapenis anytime soon.

I forget, did you mix spawn or spores on a plate?
Maybe you’ll get second or third flush natalensis showing up since they seem to take a while a lot of the time. The myc looks pretty tame though.
Is that the normal looking Melmak?

It was mixed spawn.
Not sure what the melmac is going to look like. This is my 3rd run starting from MS. The last 2 didn't look great so I dumped the culture.

Looks like normal cube stuff to me. Especially the bottom of a tub

Do these smell like toe cheese for the first 8 hours in the dehydrator to anyone else? Or are my natalensis just nasty? They smelled like any other cube after they were completely dehydrated but I had to move the dehydrator to the back room and open the windows yesterday because it made the place smell like pungent toe cheese.

First time with these. Did them in a ez dialed mono. Agar > WBS > 100% coir. Cased with 50/50+ about 36 hours after spawning.

Those look great!
Mine on the other hand... I obviously completely screwed up this flush by letting my humidifier run dry and drying the surface out! About 90% of the caps on these pins are deformed or dead...

I’m thinking about harvesting all the pins and cutting the top 1/4 inch off and adding a new layer of coirverm.

This is the information we needed. Ill be doing a replication to see if: excess water from verm may cause overlay, if a dialed tub gives the right amount of fresh air (i use totally unmodded tubs so i have a feeling these guys like elevated co2 levels), and if spawn run/casing is the way to get uniform growth.
I will say I like the effects of them enough that I'm not really gunning for a picture perfect canopy. Obviously that would be better and give me more weight but im also not going to be hurt if I don't ever figure out how to get them to grow upwards and more densely.

Thanks. Total yield was 937g from a 64qt mono. Doubt I’ll even shoot for a second flush. Ripped the surface up pretty good while harvesting. that pic in my above post is from Saturday. On Sunday (yesterday) when I checked the tub it had gotten really humid in there (this happens to all my cube tubs when they’re ready for harvest/fully opened; the tub gets humid and condensation forms on the inside of the tub walls) so I assumed they must have started dropping spores. Checked them out and all the stems had softened up a little from the high humidity and started to turn a slight shade of blue. No spore drop though and caps looked the same as day before.
Was hoping to wait until spores started dropping to get some prints but I didn’t want the stems to lose anymore integrity so I just decided to harvest right then.
Buuuuut I don’t think the tub getting too humid for 12 hours would make them smell like toe cheese in the dehydrator. No one else experienced this? They smelled like a cube before and after dehydrating but during was so bad.
I left the house after throwing them In the dehydrator and got a call from my s/o saying they had to move it to the back room because it smelled like cheese and stunk the whole place up. I assumed it was an exaggeration but to my surprise when I got back home, it was understated how pungent it was.
Kinda scared to eat them because of this. No sign of contamination in the substrate btw.

Mine have been straight coir too but still over layed bad.
Lol psilo youve got more aborts on there than I’ve had total pins so far.
Psemperviva how much spawn did you use? What’d your surface look like prior to pinning? How long til pins?
Nobodies mentioned crazy smells while drying but there’s been very few big batches like yours so far also.
From the handful I’ve grown maybe like 40% had spores and the rest looked totally sterile. Mine also seem to go rubbery when they’re mature, most of them have grown corkscrew along the ground with shredded stipes and a lot got that blue gunmetal color to them. Psilopsychin and crack both had fruits almost totally blue tinged.

Spawn:coir ratio Was about 1:2.5. These measurements are exact, not “myco qts” - 3.75qt WBS to 9.5qt Coir Casing I used was Asuras recipe he uses for pan cyans. Spawned 08/01 Cased 08/02 Pins popped I around 08/10 or 08/11. Didn’t document this. First pic I took was on 08/13 seen below. Surface looked like a pile of cotton balls after the casing got colonized. Nothing Rhizomorphic about it. Pins popped out from underneath the “sheet” of cotton, so I didn’t notice any primordia, just woke up to some pins one day breaking through the cotton ball-like layer.
Pics 1-2 are from 08/13, 2-3 days after I noticed pins Pics 3-6 are from 08/15 Last pic is from yesterday 08/16 When I noticed them going all blue and rubbery I harvested immediately. I did have 3 fruits that had stipe’s ripping apart all the way up the side, but that was all (see second to last pic).

Awesome thanks for the info. Did you get them from a vendor or somebody here?
It’s so weird how hit and miss these cultures are, id be slanting that one if you still have it.
It’s like they either grow mostly normal and pin quickly or overlay and take forever.
Have you tried them yet??
Oh also how thick was your casing? Lol sorry for the interrogation.
