Hopefully in several weeks I'll have some progress to update. Excited to be out here on the frontiers of this variety with you all!
Good luck with your project. I think nats have been one of the easiest I have worked with so far.

I'm not sure those PET containers are advisable, did they come sterile?

PET condiment cups come sterile in the package

Yeah, theyโre not ideal, but they work okay.
Sterile in the package; I maybe have an issue with 1 or 2 out of a bag of 50 when pouring. But a 2-4% contam rate could easily be attributed to my SAB technique as well. Not perfect, but not bad.
Definitely single use. And the shape isnโt great for stacking/storage: theyโre both smaller in diameter than Iโd like, and too tall.
I definitely will never go out of my way to recommend them to anyone who isnโt working within a very tight budget. but overall, for my purposes, theyโre not bad since i can get a bag of 50 for less than 3 dollars at the grocery store.

They're the first cups I ever poured in. They definitely work but, you're right, the size/height can be a little annoying.. can't beat em for the price and convenience of being able to grab them at the grocery store instead of waiting on shipping. I like petris better, but I'd probably choose those before going back to no pours

Oh dude, same. On the day I can spring for a box of 500 petris up front, I will. But Iโll never go back to no-pours. I tried a couple different containers, but all had issues. Again, Iโm not recommending condiment cups to anyone, but the lids snap on and off with one hand (important in the SAB), no twisting or two-handed manipulation. And the visibility is better than any no-pour I tried. Iโd encourage anyone to try lots of stuff, see what works best for them. While not perfect, these just meet my needs for now.

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled Natalensis content:
Hereโs a jar of WBS I hope might be ready to spawn this weekend.

I ran some of the condiment cups a while ago just to see, and they work surprisingly well. Iโve made prob 100 with no contam. I use them only for germinating spores or for the final transfer before dicing the puck up and dropping into a jar. Unfortunately theyโre way too small for working cultures.

Is there literature or academic sources describing or discussing the cost to fruiting potential that excessive mycelial growth, overlay, blobbing etc, costs us? Realize its a extremely hard question.

I recently ran out of my petris, only left with a bunch of 15cm-ers and PP condiment cups, which I shoved to the cellar a year ago maybe. Haha, pp... Made some no-pour and the whole party is fine and dandy, with semps, nats and mex germinating. I must agree on the diameter issue though, it feels like it's not enough to develop some decent sectoring. And all in all, I enjoy pouring more, it's more emotionally rewarding, bond creating, idk. For quick cloning or lc, spore germination - no pour is good, as it's quick, accessible and brings stable result.

I doubt there is anything. But for sure it takes a ton of energy to do that. Even on Agar I find that Nats get exhausted quicker than other mycelia, and then take longer to recover after a transfer because they waste away all their precious energy.

Would y'all say that a 4.5# bag of Nat spawn is good for a 66qt tub with 800g of coir? From what I gather using too much Nat spawn leads to excess overlay, yeah?

Wow (some of) this Natalensis myc moves quick! 24 hrs difference.

You may remember that all 3 of these shoe-boxes got tossed into the compost heap after contaminating with some ugly grey stuff. In the meantime, look who showed up in the compost heap.
