I want to do a Nat print giveaway but when I'm doing prints and I lift the cap the print is peeling off with the cap. I have a couple that came out fine but I also have a few that printed very light. I missed my last set because I got to them after the spore drop in the tub.(what a mess). I'm thinking I should do swabs instead of prints. Any suggestions on how to stop the print from peeling? I don't have this problem with any other print I have done.

something you can do is if you're using an san and not a ffu you can get a cookie cooling rack and set it above the foil. youll get a print that looks like someone decided to turn it into a game of tic tac toe but you won't have to worry about peeling off the print!

also thanks again!

For me, one of the big lessons with Nats has been to just spray down the overlay such that it won't be able to grow any further. Do that for a couple of days and you get a nice pinset. I'm sure others have different techniques but this works for me.

This was/is my line of thinking too, I've had minimal overlay doing the same thing. Some of the cultures people are showing with really blobby thick overlay looks like that may not work as well, but idk.

I tried something with a really blobby tub that might help someone else. I just flipped it upside down and allowed the fruits to grow from the bottom, which worked fairly well.

So I’m getting pins, but not a lot. Any thoughts about this shoebox taking off?

Where did you find the wild ones?

KwaZulu-Natal in a well fertilized grass field, couple km from sugar cane fields.

I'm seeing some Natalensis being found in the Eastern Cape on Mushroom observer in Buffalo Kloof, will be interesting to see how the area may influence the genetics.
Also looking to compare Transkei to Natalensis from the fields to see how close they are.

this is the most orderly box i have had so far. sigh ... sweet patience
spawned on aug. 14th (!), the jars were quite bacterial but colonization was regular and looks just fine. box smells good!

(3 inch deep mix of 1quart spawn on hpoo/straw/coir/verm brought to field capacity with the hpoo juice

Try up the water content and the fae.

You'll get them to grow bigger and denser.

That's a very respectable mushroom, nicely done.
Yes, in my ridiculous thin observation of 3 tubs with distinct levels of field capacity, I noticed that drier means quicker mycelium run and pinning, but smaller fruits and the opposite with heavy water content tubs.
When exactly do you open the gates of FAE, if I may ask?

To be honest I use monotubs with poly that already allow a fair bit of fae as it is but I open the holes up and release the poly once the pins have formed and I grow in an open room not a cupboard like some people.
In the past when I've grown Nats in a cupboard they were thinner and smaller.

Still big yield, just thin silvery fruit.

Thank you for detailed reply, appreciate it.
That's a very pretty phenotype you got there.
I just started, so I have  miles and miles to learn... and that's exciting... I already took notes for adjustments in future runs:
I think they were quite happy here for a "shoebox-in-a-tub-kind-of-situation", I just noticed, one or two days before the break of veil, the tub was getting sweaty as fuck, like a overcrowded unventilated bus in rush hour (like chris77, said ) I was too afraid/insecure of drying the tub (cuz I dont know shit about fuck) to go full force on the FAE, but I guess when they are in a decent canopy there's a microclimate going on between them and they would welcome the fresh Oxygen

Spiders love my nat tubs for some reason...

Finally got some of the robin's egg speckling on the caps I wanted for a clone but the culture was shit.  Took prints and kept trucking.  Sure wish I didn't throw out my beauty culture last year.  Big regret. @AK - love those little thuds you got going on.  :awesomenod:

looking good imo
surface is especially for a good first flush i would say.
keeping RH and water content of the sub right is more important from then on. i cant get beaded surface (or just locally) on second flush and it seems to matter less.

One of my tubs did that. Mine gave me a few at first then the next flush was a canopy. 3rd flush was lacking as well. Waiting to see if flush 4 is better. Hopefully they do better for you than mine did in that tub. I'm not complaining 2.6oz dry was fine for 1 tub.
