to the oats haters out there, EAT THIS
24hrs after 2nd shake

these oats where dry (!) when i pc'ed them. and i mean really dry outside. and they were just cooked to the point that i could squeeze the boiled grain out, but with a certain pressure. theses jars took off slowly. kept me wondering if i went too dry this time. but now after second shake they are colonizing rapidly there is not a single wet grain and almost zero moisture in the jar. that's it. love your oats and keep them on the dry side.

First time I put shit in the dehydrator Do you reckon 12h on 160F (or 70C) will be enough?
Nice job ! Mine barely take longer than 12 hours in the dehydrator (70 degrees Celsius). It's best to check the biggest fruits in one of the top compartments, if it snaps/crumbles easily. If it's still bendy and doesn't crumble, just continue dehydrating till cracker dry.

Thank you for the feedback! Yeah, 7h passed and they look pretty done... gonna let it run a bit more. Stupid question: in the limit, what can happen if one run them dry for 48h? the actives won't degrade if the temp is 70C max, right?
Also, does anyone reuse desiccant bags (silica gel)? I'm running the 12h dehydrating cycle with 3 desiccant bags near the mushies, hopefully this will do the trick on drying them and make them humidity hungry again in the mason jars. They only sell 100units and the prices are ridiculous in my corner of the world...

my desiccant bags have color indicators and i "recharge" them in the microwave. works perfectly. dont know if the dehydrator works well for that. longer drying won't hurt the alkaloids as far as i know.

Mine also have the color beads.. I've ran them through the dehydrator to recharge them.. I've only done it twice, but it worked great both times

I toss a silica pack in the dehydrator for the last 30-60 min. I tend to run mine 115F for 6-12 hours depending how much and what species. I pop off the caps and tear the stipes of bigger mush in 1/2 to speed things along. Then vacuum seal in bags and toss in the freezer until needed.
I'll eventually make some chocolate bon bons and potent honey from most of them. Christmas light "tours" are just around the corner!

So some of you may have followed my struggles of getting my spores to take off. Well, my first shoebox is fully colonized, and today I got my first pins. 2 pins in my bay tub. I only got a pic of one because of condensation, but I’m thrilled after 5 months of trying, I’m getting pins finally!

It's a good feeling when things go right in this hobby. I'm glad you are well on your way. Be ready, they produce so much I don't know what to do with them. Obviously eat them but storage space is a premium right now.

I've had my biggest yielding tub with hpoo this last run. It's currently already produced over 2.5kgs wet weight from 1.5 mycoquarts of spawn in a 40L monotub at 1:4 hpoo with a cv casing layer.
The tub won't be taken past the second flush but it's been an excellent yield vs straight cv so I'm doing multiple comparison grows at this point to concrete my thoughts.
I'll post up the nat tub comparison grow after the cv tub finishes it's 2nd flush later this week.

15 days since these were inoculated. Thought it would have moved a little faster. Is 30% colonized time for a shake, or longer?

I agree. I got better flushes from hpoo. Mine was 1:3 with a cv top layer in a 27qt tub produced a total 1353g wet from the first and second flush combined. I'm going to go for a third flush but will probably call it after that since I'm seeing bruising all over the mycelium. It could be from my scissors when I cut the stems at the base. My CV tub gave about half of that with the same ratio. I'm going for a 3rd flush with this one too. I'm averaging 7%-8% weight when dry too. I had to buy more storage air tight containers. I'm taking a hiatus when these are done so I'll be good to go for a while.
