The risk tapers out once your grains are fully colonised.  you can handle everything with non-sterile technique then.

I mean I wouldn't push it by like rubbing a slice of moldy bread all over it or anything but random mold spores falling into your sub while you have the lid off for pictures will be fine.

Generally speaking if the grain is axenic you don't have to worry about opening the tub.
You mix the substrate at spawn time in open air.

I actually did it in the SAB lol cuz I really wanted to get to fruiting...And still one the shoeboxes got surface mold patches...
But yeah, I know I got extra control-freak, but hey, there's no such thing as too clean :P

As some of you know, I have been tripping on Nats every other week for the last 2-3 years. Now I grew out a nice TAT culture I got from DERRAYLD, so I got to enjoy some good cubes after a long time.

I noticed something I haven't seen anyone else noticing, so maybe it's just me. When I am on Natalensis and look at a persons face or better a picture of a persons face, I often get a strange effect when I blink with my eyes. I blink and the person I look at has another hairstyle. I blink again and the hair changed again.
This phenomenon isn't limited to hairstyles though. I remember standing under a tree, looking up into it's crown. Everytime I blinked the branches would be in a different possition. It is super entertaining.

Now I only had cubes twice recently, but I didn't get that particular effect. Anyone else made this observation?

Oh yeah.

Blinking definitely does something for me as well. Sometimes I’ll just start blinking as fast as I can for a few seconds 😂.

It’s almost like snapshots that are slightly different each time.

Idk, happens on all psychedelics for me pretty much.

Or sometimes it will reset a visual. Like if I’m watching woodgrain expand it will go back to normal and start over when I blink, but the longer I keep my eyes open the farther it will go.

Yes, exactly that AKA! Somehow I am glad I am not alone with this .

I just had to laugh, because I found myself doing the "rapid-eye-blinking" too. Probably I need to try it on a higher dose of cubes just to see if that might work too...

That brings me to the question: Have you tried the opposite? Staring at something and trying not to blink is also fun.

Edit: I just realized you kind of answered that question in your last sentence.

Got some MS LC and a plate pin clone LC. One floats and one sinks

Usually contaminants will float to the top. The mycelium usually hangs toward the bottom. I’m not a TC but that is my understanding. I could be very wrong.

 hopefully not haha

It wouldn't make sense to me if all of this floating is a contam mold. Both came from very clean looking plates, and with LC and Grain I always work carefully in front of a flowhood. But I suppose anything is possible in the microbial world

This MS culture has already colonized grain and spawned to a bunch of tubs. Everything seemed fine so far, but that would suck to lose all of these tubs to some mold

Can't remember atm, but I actually think it's the opposite

They both look ok to me.

Mold can be hard to spot in lc, but if there’s bacteria the broth will be cloudy. Yours are nice and clear and look like they have healthy growth, especially the one breaching the surface. It’ll pin soon if you leave it lol. Hydro shrooms.

You should be swirling every few days or something to break up the mycelium so it doesn’t grow like that. Also it’ll be a pain to get into a syringe if it’s not shredded.

If I neglect a good LC and let it sit for a while, it will mat up at the surface. It pretty much seals off the surface. I think they are up there to maximize oxygen, since oxygen has shit for solubility in water.

I'm glad you clarified that..

I've got an LC that's really clear and mostly on the bottom, but all of a sudden it started getting matted towards the top and I thought it got contaminated somehow... it didn't make sense tho because I already tested it and it looked good...

Time to go shake it so it doesn't get worse :backflip:

Just harvested some bigger fruits from my clone culture #3. If I would have to name them "Anaconda", would come to mind, lol. A similar pheno like the snakes I used to grow, just bigger.
I like these, but I still don't get the canopy I used to get with my old culture.

The tub these come from shows similar growth patterns to the ones you got there, Gleyck.

I tried nats for the first time last night. I hate to say it but I have mixed feelings on them. I did 2g dry in acid tea tek. I figured 2g would be good due to reports of them being 2-3 times more potent than cubes. No visuals, very little wave/rush feelings like I get with cubes, and I fell asleep 3 hours into what little bit of a trip I had going on. On the positive side, no darkness and music sounded even better than when using cubes and no headaches the next day! I'm hoping it's just a potency issue with my grow being an MS grow. I only tried fruits from one tub but plan on trying the other tub next week.
