Outdoor trashcan #2, first flush, no snakes or overlay in sight. I cloned some overlay from an indoor bag, I may try to run some outside just to see if it'll blob.

I had one like that a while back, it was...fantastical.  I'm trying to train them to fruit like normal mushrooms and so far they seem to be picking that up.  Gonna have to see what the latest straight coir bulk tubs do...

Well, my charcoal agar plates have failed to inspire me, but they all do the same thing. I’m 100% sure it’s not contamination, but the wispiest mycelium ever. It’s almost impossible to photograph, but this is an inoculation plate with one drop from a MSS. In person it looks clean, just really thin weak mycelium.

I’m going to experiment with new agar recipes and restarting from spores, but this plate grew out clean looking. No obvious visible contaminants. So I sliced it up into quarters and dropped it into 4 quart jars of milo. Let’s see if this stuff can find some life in the grain.

I looked in on the grain jars this evening that I dropped this agar in. I can see what looks like mycelium growing from the agar into the grain in 2 of the 4 already. Maybe I’ll get nats out of these yet.

The pics are too crappy to see what’s happening. I’ll post some as soon as the mycelium grows out in the next couple days.

Still need to pour new plates to try again with fresh spores.

Nice! I'm rooting for you man, I'm sure this whole thread is. I'm sure the nat myc will be much happier and look better now that it's on grains.

This is the grand finale of my first nat tub, growing straight off the liner almost reaching the top...

I'm going to bury this sub in some straw outside in the garden now because it has trich on it. I bet it will still throw some fruits outside. Overall I got a whole freezer bag packed completely full from this tub.

Don't bother catching up. Just grow them like cubes and ask questions, if you have any.

They're easy. I don't think any of my spawn I used on these was completely clean, I was too lazy to build a new SAB. They grew fine anyway!

Uh-huh, I figured as much. As a new grower, I'm too lazy to go through all that trouble, not to mention, collecting more stuff. I'm going old school. Bio-lab sterilization techniques to grow a few shrooms seems a bit hard for me to swallow starting out at the moment. Thanks for the confirmation!

I don't mean to encourage NO sterile technique or anything, there's a minimum of standards that you're gonna need to follow.  Like definitely DO agar work and try to get a clean culture and clean grain spawn.  Just that if there's some bacteria in there from sloppy technique or a shitty box, you'll probably be alright.

You created the new Willie myco with your no SAB comments!!
A host of threads will emerge, and hordes of uncle Ben's with no SAB will colonize the cultivation forum

The dread! You really aren't aspiring anymore, are you?

Thanks Forrester!
