I know man, my cousin doesn’t handle cubes well so I promised him this new strain that is ‘completely different and easier to handle’ only to be left looking like a cunt because I can’t grow it I’ll keep trying man, just went from BRF puck to agar. When that grows out gunna throw it to a new LC and see what happens. I put my existing culture to a BRF puck though and all it’s done is overlay! I need those fuckin snakes

After 6 months and swiping about 15 plates from a vendor print, I got some mycelium on one plate. I needed to increase the temp of the plate in order to get it to germinate as well. My temps are 65-68 and it seems like nats need about 70 for germination.
I did this by keeping it on top of one of the 36" LED light bars for a few days.

From this, I made some transfers and grew out some tubs in a variety of conditions. The best one was a shoebox just on the shelf and it looked like this:

There is one fruit missing from that pic, which I printed.

The rest overlaid and eventually went green. There was I think one more tub that had a few pins.
I swabbed a fruit as well and swiped some agar, and got no growth for 7 days, so once again used the LED light bar trick and saw germination 4 hours later.
I am thinking now that I'm working with fresh spores, I will have some stronger cultures to move forward with.
I am wondering if my temps are too low, and they'd do better in the pans chamber.

Holy crap! To those that haven't grown nats out yet- they will test your patience, but it does get better. I didn't know what the hell was going on for a while, but thanks to this thread I bare knuckled it and held on.
Spawned 3/17 (4 qts spawn, 650-700grams coir, 3 qts verm, 4.25 qts water)...prbly colonized in about a week. Then just sat there making me anxious like I was having my first grow ever again. It was kind of rad...but only because pins showed up yesterday
First sign of pins after looking like this and not budging for 2.5 weeks
 30 hours later (today)...

Now I'm just excited to see where these land besides my friggin mouth

Perfect man. I bet they’ll be super strong after taking that long to pin.

hi. this thread is so long .. cant read it all right now.. today i finally put some natalensis 'zulu' spores that i received gratefully in return for a joke to agar. fingers crossed. as for choice of substrate/grain/supplements/temps/etc .. anything to be aware of particularly? now that my PC arrived so many possibilities. whole oats would have been my choice..

The sight of those first pins poking through is always exciting! That’s awesome man! My main tub is 1 day behind yours! Same spawn/sub but straight coir. If my test grow is any indication, I got 3-4 more days before pins show. It’s exciting having similar grows to compare and share! Keep posting up!

My final tub finally fruited, and I actually got a good flush off of it. Fruits were much thicker than normal, still blue like the rest, but holy hell I think i pulled like 2oz dry off the first flush lol. That tub also had the highest coir ratio. I think that might helpful?
Also had more 'root fruits'. This one was super dense root. Felt like cutting into a sclerotia.

Wow that actually looks like overlay. Is this species known for overlay?

Some cultures are incredibly bad for overlay and other cultures have no overlay at all.

Is it purely genetic or does it make a difference if you use tomentose/rhizomorphic mycelium? I've heard many people weren't even able to get tomentose Nats to fruit.

Clone tub, 2 quarts millet spawn to 8 quarts coir plus 2cm top layer of coir.
Lots of side pins but a fair amount in the center. Overlay stayed short on this one, maybe 3mm.
I need to harvest soon because nats drop spores fast and heavy IME. The caps were closed last night. It's morning, and if I wait until evening to harvest, spores will blacken caps.
I don't know if it's my genetics or because I increase FAE a lot during early part of fruiting (lid on a the diagonal, or mist and fan twice a day), but even when tubs overlay badly (like 1.5 to 2 inches in some places), spaghetti pheno doesn't appear in my grows. This is only my fifth tub, though.
